That model of shield was actually occasionally mounted upside down depending on the situation. You see it in the original series a couple of times. I think I might have seen it in a manga too once or twice

I actually didnt know that. I did watch the first Gundam shortly after it came out, so its very fuzzy to my memory and probably for the better, it was kinda cheesy lol.

Yeah it's kinda dated. Probably why they're working on Origins. But there's still a certain charm to it
