So this was my Secret Santa Project this year, and once again it was a success!

The present was for a mandolin player, hence the shape of the bag. I'd never tried to make a bag before, much less one resembling an instrument, so I took my time searching for stock pictures and trying to work out how I wanted it to turn out. Once I decided on this I drew all the parts in paper and made a 2D model of how it would work. I did make it look a bit like a lute with the celtic knot rose, but I wanted it to be a bit more ornate than a regular mandolin, so I ended up making it look like its ancestor.

I think it took me about 12 hours to complete in total after I had the pattern drafted.

It's made completely out of felt, since the point was to not spend money on a gift, but make it out of anything you might already have (and I have a lot of fabrics). Some parts had to be hand-sewn because the bulk wouldn't fit underneath the presser foot of my sewing machine, but it was worth it.
