This is really cool - well done. It reminds me of the sort of pose that Jenny Saville paints.

I really love this photo. I'm a plus sized model myself for some of my friend's photography, I'd never thought about putting it up here but I just might after seeing your gallery. ^ ^

The rebirth of Venus!
I love it! Great work, great model!
Looks a bit like an old paint of Rubens!
All the nerds with their mediocre comments would pay billions for such a painting if they only could!
Please, donΒ΄t stop doing and posting these great pics of your beautiful body!

I'm shocked about the agruement above.
First of all this would make a lovely painting. The way the lines flow and curve in and out. The form of the body and the way the light hits the body is very soothing. I love the shades of blue. I plan on painting this. I really do. The composition reminds me of different artists paintings of women.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it. I like it too...more people have said that they like the composition than have said they hated it or have made comments about my body, and I'm so greatful to every single person who has let me know they like it.

I really love the perspective here and I don't why people keep arguing about it. I think lighting and contast are just perfect plus the diagonal composition of it makes it very dinamic. Plus everything in this picture feels so soft.

Thank you! I think I've accepted that the peice is one of those things you either love or hate. I was really nervous to put it up because of the composition, but I just felt that there was something about it...I like that some people see that too but I'm not surprised that others don't.

I want everyone to know that earlier this evening, I caught my stepson on my computer without permission. I've been away for the last week or so, and came home to find him logged in here at da, looking at the nude stock section. after looking at my messages, I found out that he'd been making inappropriate comments about several artists work....He also messed around with my profile too.
He is a teenager, and thinks he knows everthing. I assure you that he has been banned from the internet, and is being punished for the awful comments he made. I can only hope that you all will accept my heartfelt apology for the things that were said, the hurt feelings it must have caused, and damage it may have resulted.
I swear this is the truth, and was apalled when I figured out what he had done here. Fatgirlstock-I hope you can forgive me for all this trouble, and know that any further comments on your work will be from me, not him,and of a positive nature! I browsed you gallery and I really like your stock.

I admit I'm a little confused. I don't want to be accusatory or rude, and I will say that as long as no more comments are made I'll let the issue drop.
I looked at your activity just to assure myself that these kinds of comments were over with, and I saw that one of the apologies made to artists was made before another rude comment about me.
I haven't reported you beyond the first comment I recieved. If it is indeed your son making these comments, please keep him away from your account. That's what passwords are for.
Thank you for the apology. I appreciate it.

This is really grotesque...Very unflattering to the model and highly unattractive. I am not saying this to be cruel either.Common sense as to what is pretty and what is fucking ugly is something you evidently cannot distinguish. If your mom could see you now!!!
P.S. All you folks who raved about the beauty of this are Equally twisted and need therepy-

"You have been a Deviant since Jan 23, 2004, 5:15 AM, yet you have only 504 Pageviews and 4 Deviant Comments. Your total amount of watchers since 2004 equals a grand total of 3. You state that you are an adult male (age 33) but you list the following:
Current Residence: Uranus
Favourite game: Spin the Bottle
Favourite movie: Princess Bride
I think the facts are painfully clear."
@NooYawkGurrl: This is not the only art community in exhistance....There are much better and well planned out ones in which I usually visit regularly, and post my work very prolificly. The fact that I spend so little time here is Irrelevent.
I am, however, a serious artist, and have a right to my opinion. You dont have to like it....I admit I could have been far less abrasive when I made those earlier comments.
I just believe that with a nickname like "Fatgirlstock", and a portfolio stuffed with morbidly obese nudes, she has some real issues as regards to what is artistic and appealing, and that name really doesent say much for her self esteem...

Okay, so I know that this probably isn't the teenage boy on his stepmother's account anymore, but I would just like to point out that a 33 year old male does not say "exhistance" or "Irrelevent"(capitalized), among other spelling and grammar errors.
*fatgirlstock , there are people who are critical of everyone, and idiotic words like these must be ignored.

I'm not sure what you are saying here...Those words you have in quotation marks were part of those bad comments my stepson made. He has been dealt with, and in private correspondance, fatgirlstock and I have sorted this thing out and made peace. I apologized to her profusely for what my stepson did.
After reading my explanation, people ought to forget about this and move on with things.....

Using the name "Fatgirlstock" is about OWNING the term "fat girl." It has a social relevance. Many groups of people who have been classically oppressed by society use the very same culturally-derived, negative slurs used against them to describe themselves, doing so as a means of taking the power away from those very words. For example: Call me a "bitch", and I'll tell you I am damn proud to be one.
By the way, go to a library and take out an art book that shows depictions of women by famous artists from centuries past... you'll notice a lack of anorexic centerfolds. Research the artist named Reubens.
You're the one with issues.

Congradulations, after spending all your time at much superior art sites you've deigned to grace us with your presence and expert opinion. Which seems to have been summarized by "fucking ugly"
It appears to me that your big problem is that she's not a skinny nude model in one of the traditional poses that are sprinkled throughout every corner of this site, and undoubtedly through all those awesomely better sites you spend all your time at. Sure the angle and pose of the shot are somewhat glaring and offputting, but I believe that is the purpose of the shot. And if that were your primary complaint I'm sure people would have far less trouble with what you're saying, even if you did choose a way to express that opinion that almost begs for conflict.
But no, you keep going back to the point that she's not the physical norm of nude photography, which seems to be your only requirement for what is "artistic and appealing" as if those two things were only achievable by a select few who can still fit into their middle school gym clothes. You try and use her own user name against her, as if it's wrong to be self aware, honest, and posess a sense of humor. I think labelling yourself something like that, then going and posing nude leads is proof of much in the way of self esteem.
The closest thing to complimentary that you seem to be capable of saying about anything of this is that the photo doesn't do her justice, because no matter how often you preceed your insults with the statement that you intent no harm, it's still an insult.
Just because you personally don't like the photo, and don't like that there are other people who say they like it, doesn't mean it can't function as a reference picture or stock art to some artist out there somewhere, which is the original intent of the image and a fact you never seem to come across.

1.I was not saying that the model is Ugly....the pose, the point of view, and physical wieght of the model are not really elements that make a good photograph...I aplogize for using the "F" word.
2.I can understand that submitting nude pictures of one self might make them feel better about themselves, and people comment positively to be supportive. But all that sunshine they are pumping into you does not change the fact that the photo is really not doing you justice.
3.My negative comment will not do your work any harm...You seem to have plenty of support from the community.....If my comment is against the rules, then I guess they'll do something about it.
By the way, how many of the people from your immediate family know about your posting these kinds of pictures of yourself?would you want them to see it?the positive feedback you get about your photography is by people you have likely never met in person...

fatgirlstock In reply to HorseFlesh [2006-12-31 21:50:56 +0000 UTC]
I am not angry that you put up a negative comment. People put up negative comments all the time, and when they are constructive, e.g. "The light in this is really inadequte, this pose is highly unflattering, I can't draw this because your arm is cut off," etc, I appreciate them. If you had stopped at "this is highly unflattering to the model and highly unnatractive" I wouldn't have been upset by your comment.
What angered me is that you called the photo "fucking ugly", called the people who enjoyed the photo "twisted" and opined that they needed therapy, and put the personal comment "If your mom could see you now." Those type of comments have nothing to do with artwork! There's a big and very basic difference there that you should be able to grasp.
And please don't presume that you understand why people appreciate my work. Just because you don't enjoy something doesn't mean other people are merely "pumping sunshine" to me Many of whom you seem to think are my eternal fan club let me know very vocally when they dislike a photo. I have about 200 watchers- do you think those people all merely watch me to boost my self-esteem? Obviously, you don't like my stock, which is fine, but why say that the other people who like it are being positive merely to be supportive? I mean, what's the point?
And what exactly is the point of the personal questions you're asking me about my family and friends? Are you perhaps a member of a church outreach program that frowns on overweight nudity but embraces cruel comments to strangers? Yes, many of the people on here know me in person. Yes, several members of my immediate family know abotu this site. We are mostly all figure artists. So noone cares.

I'm not sure if you're saying just the photo is ugly or the model is. If you're commenting on the model, that's inappropriate, against the rules of deviantart and just plain wrong. You can see clearly from her extensive gallery that she is anything but. If you're just saying the photo is grotesque, well, not all photography is meant to be posed, airbrushed models looking happily into the camera. Leave that to the Sears catalogue. This photo is not about "flattering" the model, but there is a big difference between flattery and beauty.

fatgirlstock In reply to HorseFlesh [2006-12-24 00:43:21 +0000 UTC]
Okay, I have a few things to say here.
1. I am not only the photographer but the model, and I don't find this unflattering to me.
2. Many other people like the photo, and have used it in manipulations and traditional artwork. My stock is for other people to use. If a photo can be useful, I leave it up.
2. You obviously are confused as to what is creative critisim and what is pure cruelty. If you are not saying it to be cruel than you have no reason to say it- it does not help my future photos at all. I am not shocked to find someone doesn't find a picture of mine beautiful; I wouldn't have cared if you had merely said that the photo was unattractive, but the rest of your comment was full of foul language and rude commentary.
3. I can see you are not aware of this by your activity, but Deviantart does not allow you to go around randomly making obscene and hateful comments on peoples pages, regardless of their size or your OPINION of their beauty.
Consider yourself reported.
