In English it is known as the 'Island of Rabbits' though nowadays, no rabbits occur there. Many Gulls of the species Laurus argentatus breed here, and they are very aggressive and noisy when defending their nests. moreover, a species of skink and a rare species of Psadomarus lizard occur on the island. the island is dominated by four species of shrubs, such as Wolfbane, shrubby Orache, shrubby Seablite and a shrubby species of Salsoda. the near by Spaggia dei Conigli, Rabbit Bay, consist of a sand-dune with other rare plants, and it is one of the remaining breeding sites for turtles in the Mediterranean. the island is situated just 20m away from the south west of Lampedusa. in fact in summer, a small path of sand is formed between the two due to lower tides, and it can be easily walked. the island is protected by law, since it form a part of the local nature reserve, and no one is allowed to walk on the island. the island is roughly the same size as Large Blue lagoon Rock [link]
