I've had this piece in mind for as long as Banda existed. It involves her being orphaned during the wintertime, with little chance of survival.

Banda never got along with her mother. Her mom was emotionally abusive and neglectful, thus, Banda began to wander around without her mom at a young age. She gained the nickname "the wanderer" from her bully Leonie. Although her mother was neglectful, Banda always returned to the den each night. She felt like she couldn't be without her mother, even though she was mean. The abuse she received ended up making Banda quiet, so she didn't have to upset anyone. She wasn't shy and wanted to make friends, but the other fawns judged her based on her seen behavior and wanted nothing to do with her. That one exception was Nico, the cocky piebald fawn. Nico believes she is easy to manipulate and tries to impress her with his deadly stunts, one of which starts a conflict with the wolves.

One winter, there was little food for the deer to eat. All of the grass was buried under too deep in the snow or dead, and all of the tree bark was eaten. Banda's mom decided to go into the wolf territory to find the extra bark. She knew the wolves lived there, but she was so hungry that it canceled out the threat of getting eaten, in her mind. The wolves were also hungry as many prey animals perished due to lack of food. When they saw a doe foraging around, they killed and ate her.

When Banda woke up the next morning, she noticed her mother wasn't there. She called out for her and decided to look around. After hours of searching, she came across a corpse of a deer. When, she got up close, she realized it was her mom. She was totally shocked! She didn't know what to do on her own. She was weaned, of course, but only ate the plants her mother gave to her. She was so in shock and traumatized that she wandered around in a big blizzard until she was too tired to walk. Banda's winter would be a difficult one.
