Description So a friend of mine a little while ago asked if I'd be willing to doodle some designs on a copy of Tolkien's "book of lost tales, volume 1" so he could use it as a prop in the Mage: The Awakening LARP that he's a part of. As you can see, I ended up agreeing to it and scribbled in gold gel pen all over the cover. (I also did the spine and other side, but didn't get a chance to take a picture before I passed it back to him. I do hope to get full pictures of it at some point though)

Excellent work! I look forward to reading about the uses to which this prop gets put. Bonus idea: there's a supplement for M:tA called "Grimoire of Grimoires". I'm saving my own couch-change for it, but I'm sure that there are many interesting ideas for similar projects. Good luck!

Thanks! Sadly, I don't know most of the uses that it has been put to as it was done as a prop for a friend involved in playtesting the M:tA larp system (White Wolf apparently likes to use the larp group in the city I was in as a playtest group for their larp stuff) I do know that people there apparently liked it enough for it to make repeat appearances as plot relevent items in other games after the mage larp ended.

Personally, I'd love to do another one like this at some point. Doesn't even have to be a book specifically, just something I can stick funky designs on. Perhaps even do something with intertwined patterns in different colours (say, gold, silver and bronze or something like that)

Oh, Mage LARP just lends itself to stuff like that: relics of every description, treasure chests, goblets, armor, jewelry, etc.

Bonus Challenge Number One: if the LARP sets up an adventure into some kind of Atlantean site, you could come up with hanging banners with Atlantean glyphs (and weird stone-like surfaces into which they are "carved") out of canvas, which could be put up before the game and taken down afterward.

Bonus Challenge Number Two: Coordinate with the LARP-master about a Plot Device (map, "stone" tablet, flagon, etc.) that has been "broken" and must be re-assembled as part of some greater plot arc.

Bonus Challenge Number Three: Glow-in-the-dark elements, like fabric paint or electroluminescent wire.

In any event, good luck, and please share pictures of your next project!

Of course, for #3 if I wanted to be really classy I could do something like metal bindings with inlaid faux gems that are backlit by micro LEDs.

Really, any of them would be kind've fun but are unlikely to actually happen since I'm no longer living in the same city as my LARPer friend. At least not for the time being, though I'll definately toss up photos if I do another.

Thanks, I've actually got more pictures of it now but have yet to get around to uploading them. Plus it actually looks a bit better in real life as the lines all shine (horray for metallic gel pens! )
