I'm really loving the brushwork on this! Was this entirely done in Painter or did you use Photoshop too? Anyway, it's beautiful!

Very cool; I like the way you simulated the canvas showing through. Transparent darks and opaque lights, cool stuff.

I think I've seen you around somewhere; Conceptart?

Yeah! Cool you picked up on the texture and what I was trying to simulate with the transparent darks and opaque lights.
If you want to try it, first you do the painting and then you bring in the canvas texture on a new layer, set that layer to Overlay, hide that layer, then added a layer mask to that layer and then Apply Image to the mask, un-hide the layer, then Invert the mask so now the texture will only show up in the dark areas of the painting. You may have to adjust the levels of the layer mask and bring down the opacity of the whole layer, but thats basically it.
I post at concept art every now and then, same screen name I have here. Thanks!

Ah, I see. At first I thought it was just painting light over the dark canvas underlayer. But the strokes didn't really look that way; that makes more sense.

No problem!

yeah, I tried to make it look like thats what I did, but it doesn't really work out that well. I think it works good as a middle step and maybe I should go back and reestablish the opaque lights as actual strokes over the dark canvas. thanks!
