It's been a while since I finished anything that I was really sure of, and this really isn't any different, but I need to move on and so I'm submitting this now. I can always go back and tweak it.My main problem is the texture of the main model. I like it, but think it needs work.
I have some other, stranger places hopefully on the way, but whenever I try to create a new ecosystem, a new region of my world, I get even more overly critical.
Well, hope you like it!
Oh and the title....hmmm, just came to me in a flash, and so I figured I'd use it....not sure what it means really....might change it as well.....

It's a fantastic plant, of course, convincing, original and almost animal; and the eco system is similarly stimulating, interesting and diverse.
I love the pale, highly contrasting and crisp look you give many of your pictures; reminds me of the precise, detailed and graceful style of 18th century botanical illustrations. The cloudless atmosphere works very well. Excellent work.

I'm curious to know it if ever was your intention, or even an area you're familiar with, to 'look' like the kind of botanical art Darwin and many other botanists brought back from their travels to the Pacific, Indies, Australia and the Americas? It seems to go so well with the subject matter: the extraordinary plants and life of new and uncharted worlds.

To some extent, yes....I even thought about doing some renders just focusing on specific species, and probably will at some point (one recent picture, called Illustration #1, is kinda what I mean)....I have some sketch books with drawings of animals I've created that would probably be even more similar....it's all just one part of the world I've been creating since I was a kid....someday hopefully I'll be able to publish the written works as well....thanks for taking an interest!

It's a grand and special idea. I don't know of anyone who has thought of doing something like that. I think it will work well and will certainly make a good book!

Btw, have you ever tried OnyxTree products? With your talent with trees, I bet you'd be so awesome at the software.

I have yet to try OnyxTree, but I've heard of it and would love to try it.....not sure if it's a standalone though, or a pluggin....also, not sure how expensive it is.....anytime I find a good tree program I jump on it, but for the most part xfrog is the only one that I really like....if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them....

OnyxTree is a bit expensive, but it has some immense results. I've been using it for my custom tree models (like the palms in most of my scenes). They come with alien presets too. I never use those, but I'll take a few screenshots and send them to you.
It is available as Standalone (Exports OBJ, etc.) or as part of the TreeStorm plugin for Max.

Thanks so much....and yes, the arms are quite strong and could easily support the weight of a man....when I'm better acquainted with poser and am able to create some characters I would love to add a young man sleeping soundly on one of them in the warm summer sun.....

Well, beyond the pictures themselves (and my writings) I would love if someday people could explore it like you do in a video game....but that's a long way away....

In the sense that it'd take hundreds of hours of rendering time for one second, and no computer ca handle a game with real-time rendering like that?

Well, I dont really know too much about it, to be honest, so I'm sure the quality wouldn't be as good as what I'd want, but what I've seen from games like Oblivion gives me hope....and besides, I was thinking 20 or so years in the future, actually....

Remember, computers speeds are doubling annually. You could, (With the right knowledge,) have that out, I say 7 or 8 years.
And for a game with graphics like that, I'd recomend something along the lines of Myst.
