Don't get me wrong, I ship Gam/Tav. I just can't STAND those people who turn Tavros into some sissy as he falls over himself for Gamzee.I have more of these I'll upload later. They have become both my release for all the things I hate about people online and gif practice.

I feel quite positively about Gamtav!
I mean on a scale of zero to high enthusiasm; I’m always more enthusiastic about girls kissing than boys kissing; and I’m always more enthusiastic about non-sexual pale Gamkar fic than I’ll ever be about Gamtav, BUT, I still very much enjoy Gamtav and will often read it when I stumble over it!
Now the thing with Gamtav is, though, there is so much to keep in mind, like:
- Tavros might be a nerd, but he’s this kind of nerd who has lots of friends and is very unapologetic about his nerdy interests, openly enthusiastic and self-assured about what he likes, which, as we know, makes people cool! His best friend is probably Aradia, but he also really gets along well with Nepeta, and Terezi if I recall well; Gamzee is merely one of many people in his life.
- Corollary to this is that any Gamtav where Tavros is the bullied nerd-kid and Gamzee teaches him confidence can bite me, Tavros is obviously popular and also definitely waaaay more popular than Gamzee, who is very much Not Popular.
- Tavros stammers and he has teenage insecurities but he’s generally well adjusted as far as trolls and our cast goes. He has a great lusus and a good homelife and friends! He’s got one big problem in his life, which is also the source of all his self-esteem issues, and it’s Vriska. (Vriska’s abuse does not work because he already was “weak” and insecure, it works because she’s relentless and in spite of Tavros being so well-adjusted). Tavros is not at all a generally shy or uncomfortable person, and it shows whenever he talks to anybody who’s… not Vriska. That’s important.
- Speaking of Vriska, casually abusive Tavris as background in front of which the Gamtav develops is fucking depressing. It’s terrible when it’s humorous (come on), it’s terrible when Vriska’s role is to be a mean-girl-antagonist ripe with misogynistic shit-tropes (come on!!); I don’t like. Either the Tavris situation is a real topic in the fic and gets a resolution and everything, (one that does absolutely not, ever, involes “Gamzee saving Tavros”, but might involve Aradia), or, well, just don’t.
- Speaking of saving, it’s important to remember Gamzee watched Tavros being abused without getting involved further than singing supportive rap gospels, and watched Karkat getting stabbed and did nothing; so I’m sort of meh at stories where Gamzee goes all defensive of his little lowblood motherfucker and beats up the the evil bullies.
- So what happens, actually, is that Tavros is more savvy, more confident and more popular than Gamzee, and yet he choses to hang out with Gamzee. And he actually likes talking with Gamzee, even though Gamzee is weird and creepy. Tavros is not just being patient and kind with the strange kid nobody else likes, he’s actually enjoying himself with Gamzee, in spite of Gamzee being so Gamzee, and that’s really cute!
So, that kept in mind - I personally also really don’t like Gamzee casually touching people non-consensually as is shown in numerous fics and arts. I won’t accept Gamzee casually ruffling Tavros’ mohawk and Tavros getting flustered and Gamzee laughing and it’s supposed to be cute? Gross!
What I like, though, is Gamzee Makara who grew up alone on a beach, and doesn’t know how friendly touch even works for real and who dissolves into a puddle of complicated feelings when Tavros touches him. Not a Gamzee who invades people’s personal spaces and it all suave and dominant, but a Gamzee who freezes up when people enter his, and it very much awkward, and not just the cute kind of awkward. Like, so awkward! Extremely awkward. Not suave at all. Grossly awkward.
Stories of how Gamzee falls in love because Tavros was so kind to him, but it’s unrequited and Gamzee is creepy and that’s it and it’s a bit sad are okay I guess, but I prefer happiness? like stories where Tavros falls in love with Gamzee, too, not because Gamzee wooed him so proficiently (haha, lol), but just because he does.
And I actually prefer when it’s Tavros who takes the initiative, then, because while Gamzee will boldly propose make-out sessions over trollian and think himself smooth, he’s pretty clueless and will probably space out on you instead of handling the situation, so I like when it’s Tavros who’s more in charge.
But the point being here is, I don't really think people should get so worked up over this ship. I mean, it's a fan fiction. What do you expect? The whole point of a fan fiction is just to have fun with it and enjoy it. Just take a look at Erisol. There not at all in character in there fanfictions, but people still read and enjoy them. But if you really feel the need to go out of your way a make a "negative" point on Gamtav, might I suggest doing one on Tavris? I mean, they are wAAAAAY out of character in there fanfictions.

I agree not only with this about Tav, but writing in general. While I do think that Tavros is a sweet and cute character, I know that he isn't weak and isn't some sissy. When writing good fanfiction it is important to know how to write the story you want, but do it in a way that keeps everyone in character. This is something that applies to all characters. It can be hard when it involves un-canon things (such as non-canon pairings) but part of the thrill of fanfics are finding ways to write in a way that makes their reactions and thoughts believable for their character. So if you think that Tav is a bundle of cuddles that's fine, but you need to acknowledge that there is more to him than that. If you really like a character, you owe it to that character to portray them as accurate as you can.

I agree with most of your points... but Tavros is adorable in my eyes (so he is OMG, so cute) but he is still strong and awesome =3
