Description A simple topographic map where I actually got too lazy to give it some finishing touches... But it still looks nice regardless, and I wanted to finish it before the start of next week.

The basic premise is that the Kingdom of Hawaii during its decline period gets partitioned between the British and the Americans, with the US getting Oahu and everything west of it, while the British establish a protectorate over the eastern portion of the kingdom. They establish a protectorate over a rump kingdom ruled initially by Kalakaua, and direct colonial administration over the port of Hilo and the island of Lana'i. Colonial Hawai'i prospered, and the British administration continued to import labor to work in the sugar and fruit plantations, though they shifted towards the usage of Indian laborers instead of Filipinos or Japanese, who made up the majority of the workforce. Due to these developments a sizable Indo-Hawaiian community emerged, similar to the Indo-Fijians further south. Upon its independence in 1980 the Kingdom of Hawaii was seen as a beacon of multiculturalism, with citizens of European, East Asian, South Asian, and Polynesian descent all living together, and communicating with each other using both the native Hawaiian language and English.

The American portion of the Sandwich Islands was merged with a selection of other small colonies in the Pacific and named Pacificia in an effort to undermine the native identity of the people of Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau. White American settlement was encouraged, and significant numbers of Japanese, Filipino, and Chinese workers were still brought to the islands, and some were allowed to settle there, too. By 1908 the majority of the population of the Pacificia Territory was Asian. In 1959 Pacificia was partitioned to form the state of Honolulu, containing on the American Sandwich Islands and the Northern Line Islands, while the remainder of the territory was turned into several tiny unincorparted territories. Today Honolulu, which confusingly shares its name with its capital, has a population of just under one million people, with only six percent of the population being of Polynesian ancestry, compared to the twenty percent in the Kingdom of Hawaii.

Hawaii, in terms of diplomacy, is close to the UK, New Zealand, Canada, Samoa, Fiji, India, Tonga, and Bengal. Due to family ties relations with individuals living in the State of Pacificia exist and are economically important, however diplomatic relations with the US government are complicated, but both nations have exchanged ambassadors. Hawaii has recently recalled its ambassador to Australia after a recent controversy in which a Hawaiian citizen on a business trip died while detained in the custody of Australian immigration officials.

Pretty Cool idea! I love alternate histories of Hawaii for just how unique they can be.

I feel like Hilo and Lana'i wouldn't be the best set of territories to have under one government, given that they're not really anywhere near each other in terms of the Hawaiian Islands.

Pacificia isn't a great name in my opinion. It's unwieldy and awkward to pronounce, not to mention ambiguous as to how it should be pronounced at all. I think Pacifica would be better, or maybe Oceania.

I agree, but reality isn't always so kind. I mean OTL is so weird that Americans thought Idaho and Wyoming were good naming choices xD

Perhaps just Pacifica would work as well? It would be easier to pronounce. They could also name it after a US president, Jefferson would be a good contender. Another good idea would be to name it after Matthew Calbraith Perry, since he was a major naval admiral of the historic US. I was going to argue the claim this US would care about naming based on a native name [since a lot of US state names have origins in the natives] and suggest Honolulu as a name; but since this colony had a native protectorate nearby, I can believe it.

Update: I decided to keep that name for the territory, but changed the name of the state to Honolulu, because the US is weird like that.
