Anyway: the "Three Sister Republics" is a common nickname applied to the three anglophone republics on the North American continent. The oldest of the three are the United States of America, originally established in 1776, which served as the birthplace of the two other sister republics. The USA is often regarded as the most powerful nation in the Americas thanks to its vast farmland in the Midwest and the large industrial sector surrounding the Great Lakes. Due to the complex history of the young republic an internal conflict was inevitable. The most stressing issue of the nation was the one of slavery, which was practiced in the southern states as well as portions of the Midwest. The exodus of slave-owners into the Mexican region of Texas led to the creation of the Republic of Texas, followed by the California War in which the United States and Texas partitioned the Mexican territory of Alto California among themselves. This controversial cooperation as well as the continued reluctance of the southern states to move away from slavery led to the independence of the six states forming New England in 1865, a move that went unopposed after it became clear that no other state (with the exception of Michigan, which narrowly voted against secession) contemplated secession from the United States. The friendship of Texas and the United States continued to prosper, and both nations abolished slavery in the late 1880s (Texas in 1887 and the United States in 1889), however race relations remain tense. New England's relationship with the US and Texas has improved since the days of secession but the Federated States look primarily towards Canada and old England in terms of trade and cooperation.
