Description The Art

This is the first thing I tried painting, after I got my tablet, using this tutorial . I used Photoshop 6 (I have CS1 but it runs very very slowly on my laptop). Frankly, I was amazed by the result. This is easily the best thing I've ever done.

Of course, in retrospect, there are things I could've done better. Another hour of detailing would have made the ground and wall look less cartoon-y. His legs, and especially his feet, are placed strangely.

I filed this under Macabre/Horror because when I show it to people, they react very negatively ("What the heck happened to that guy?!", "Why did you paint something like this?!"). I admit that it's pretty sick-looking, but I can't help but love how it turned out.

The Subject

This is Tep, one of the main characters in my (roughly) fourth novel, The Golden Sands. He loses his arm and is slashed accross the chest in a fight.

This painting is of him about three months after the fight, hence the stitches are still visible. I tried to convey how depressed he is at this point (well, slightly more depressed than usual), and according to some comments, I've succeeded.

I like drawing him during the period in his life when he had no right arm, because... Okay, because it means I have to draw one less arm. Also, I can't help but enjoy the look of shock people get when I show them my drawings.
