Description in order to keep the Black Rage at bay, on the eve of a battle the Blood Angels often indulge in prayer and the memory of the sacrifice of their Primarch so many centuries ago. Chaplains pass from one Space Marine to another, blessing them all and taking note of those who seem to have the most glazed gaze, or the most excited speech. Most Blood Angels are able to overcome the intrusion of Black Rage into their minds and keep it contained in the depths of their being, as they have been specifically trained for it. But for some individuals the Sanguinius mark is too strong, the visions too vivid and suggestive, and they cannot resist them. While the Chaplains sing the Moripatris (the mass of the damned), these poor "chosen ones" fall unconscious in the arms of their priests, and are withdrawn from the unit to which they belonged to become part of another much more special: the Company. of death

The warriors of the Company of Death seek only to perish in combat, and they surrender to their last battle with great honor. Each Brother of the Company of Death is decked out in black armor, emblazoned with blood-red bladed crosses symbolizing the wounds suffered by Sanguinius during his final fight against Horus, and decked out with scrolls proclaiming the feats and honors that were awarded. They had recognized said Space Marine before madness took hold of him. From the moment a Brother in Battle dons the funereal armor of the Company of Death, he can be considered a walking corpse, permanently lost for his Chapter, but remembered for all eternity in his stories.

The members of the Company of Death fight without the slightest fear, as only warriors who are completely sure that their end is imminent could. In addition, the energy and willpower that Black Rage gives them make them insensitive to injuries so serious that only a few days before they would have cost their lives. Under the watchful eyes of the Chapter Chaplains, the Lost Brothers of the Company of Death achieve even greater glory than the rest of their Battle-Brothers, facing enemies who vastly outnumber them in a final act of Chapter service. Many Blood Angels victories have been preceded by a devastating assault by the Company of Death. Few opponents are able to withstand the onslaught of these crazed warriors (much less repulse) In Antax, Mel'yanneth, Hollonan, Armageddon, and countless other worlds, the Company of Death has more than lived up to its name. , and legends about their ferocity have even reached corners of the galaxy where the Blood Angels have never set foot.

Yet all this glory comes at a price that demands to be paid, either during or after battle, in the fleeting calm of victory: those few members of the Company of Death who survive the combat will perish soon after, either for the horrific wounds suffered, or for the pious hand of the Redeemer of the Lost, a figure of the Blood Angels whose function is to end the suffering of the Space Marines who are afflicted with the Black Rage; and perhaps it is better that it be so, for an Astartes of the Company of Death who does not die in either of these two ways will sooner or later fall victim to the Bloodlust.
