Tried making a Minguo-themed artwork. For starters 'minguo'(民國 :literally 'republic') refers to the Republic of China (1912 - 1949). Today, minguo only refers to the historical era and South Korea (大韓民國); the standard Chinese word for 'republic' nowadays is gònghéguó (共和國).The woman is wearing a qipao (旗袍)/cheongsam (長衫), a figure-fitting, one piece garment with a standing collar, an asymmetric, left-over-right opening and two side slits, and embellished with Chinese frog fasteners on the lapel and the collar. It was developed in the 1920s and was popular in China from the 1920s to 1940s. It was popularized by Chinese socialites in Shanghai.
This is particular artwork is set sometime during the 1920s; the Chinese characters on the scroll hanging behind the woman are lyrics from the Commentary of Shang Shu (尚書大傳) written by Fu Sheng in 200–100 BCE.
I tried to go for a minimalist theme in this artwork with sunset-vibes, & a pretty plain and understated qipao.
