I'm both creeped out and stunned.

I really like this. I like the contrast between the insect and the dollie. The detail work is fantastic. But the dollie in the corner seems oddly placed. It's coming foward a lot, when it seems it should be sitting back.

Wow, sooo realistic and really creative subject. I know this is kind of old, just found it. Very nice.

Lovely! The cicada husk is actually rather adorable and charming, and quite appropriate for the doily. Good work on the doily in the foreground, excellent realism... the upper doily seems to be in a slightly different perspective, but it fits the composition beautifully this way: it's the smaller counterweight for the larger weight on the lower-left of the image. This image feels very Art Noveau without using any of the usual icons distinctive to Art Noveau... quite an accomplishment there.
It feels like there's supposed to be music that goes with this image... is there?

Why do I think of the Alice in Wonderland tea party? The colours you used in the shadow on the doily are brilliant - I would have never thought of mixing in greens and oranges to create a shadow (from what I can see it looks like an off-green and off-orange anyway). The critter is in fantastic detail and has some nice contrasts however I can't help but feel the background is a little plain? I could imagine it being a polished table with lots of random reflections or contrasts.

i always mix different colorsinto the shadows, it's how you get realistic depth. shadows are almost never just grey or black, they always have some kind of color to them. i have to get back some of my older skull paintings and post them they really show the colored shadow techniques that make a painting look 3-d!

I admire your doily, I can't make myself do things like that right now, I can do it, but I don't like to because it requires so much patience.

thanks. i thought it looked like a little battle-bot or something. a tiny monster. i have a mature cidcada in my bug collection too, they're creepy and yet fascinating.... i used to like to pick them up but then their legd were all sticky and i'd get freaked out and drop them....
