I've had this image wondering around in my head for months, ever since I heard the song Dryad's Promise by S.J. Tucker, written by Betsy Tinney. Its very sad, but oh so sweet!

The particular lyrics from the song that brought the picture to mind were these:
Warm summer breezes remind Pitys’ daughter
Of seasons and centuries spent with her pine
When sap of his heartwood ran warm with her laughter
Her voice in his branches entwined

Whispering
Grow, sweet conifer, grow
Reach for the sun, leave the green earth behind
For whatever happens, my tallest of princes
I never shall leave my white pine.

I don't know if there actually are male dryads I think in the song he was more so intended to just be the spirit of a tree. . . but one way or another, I always envisioned it like this listening to the song.
