Description

FULL NAME: Andrea “Andie” Bennett

DATE OF BIRTH: January 28

AGE: 36

ZODIAC SIGN: Aquarius

THEME COLOUR: Silver

LIKES: Fast cars, guns, and solving mysteries

DISLIKES: Injustice, ignorance and discrimination

ABILITIES: Expert pilot and skilled marksman; fluent in English, French, and Spanish

FAMILY: Russell Bennett (father), Tai Childs (cousin), Adrienne Beaumont (stepsister)

RELATIONSHIPS: Mary Adler (best friend), Paul Young (fiancé)

PROFESSION: Private Investigator, Femmes Fatales Investigations

PERSONALITY: Andie is a thrill-seeking individual who lives for the chase. She likes to live life dangerously, which often puts her in conflict with those who care about her. At the same time, she is fiercely loyal and will do whatever it takes to protect her loved ones. She’s also a staunch liberal and is a proud supporter of LGBTQ rights.

HISTORY: After graduating from high school, Andie joined the Canadian Air Force. She quickly rose through the ranks, before being chosen for a special program called Project: AVES.

Following the death of her aunt, Andie left Project: AVES and became the sole guardian for her cousin Tai. To support herself, Andie opened up a private detective agency in Toronto named Femmes Fatales Investigations.

As the lead detective, Andie spent most of her time trailing cheating spouses and providing personal security for public figures. When Tai was accepted into a college in New York City, Andie moved the business to the States.

It was here where she met her fiancé Paul and her best friend Mary. The move also proved to be economically beneficial for her, as she’s experienced an influx of wealthy clients desperate for protection and answers to cold cases.

-------------------------------------------------------

Andie is one of the lead protagonists for my as-yet-unpublished novel "Femmes Fatales." She's strong, tough and compassionate, while also placing family and friends at the top of her priorities list. Andie is a fun character to write because she's a total sasspot and is always up for a little action. Physically speaking, she's like a mix between Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Garner. She's a little Lara Croft and a little Sydney Bristow.

I've drawn Andie quite a few times, but she's never quite connected with my watchers the way the other Femmes Fatales characters. This is partly what's always motivated me so occasionally redesign her look. She used to sport a black bob before I gave her a more appealing tussled look of sandy tresses.

As always, I hope you guys like this piece and I'm always hopeful for excellent feedback. I always love hearing your opinions on my original characters, even though I know the majority of you prefer that I stick to fanart.

Feel free to drop a comment below.

Enjoy!

So because I like your characters personality's so much I thought I would understand them , their outfit choices , and the story in general a little better if I looked up some information. After a minute or two of looking around I ran into your journal explaining " Femme Fatales"  and all the pieces just went together in my head. So because I have a better understanding of what Femme Fatales is I wanted to do another critique on one of your characters , let's begin.

Hair: As I have said time after time I like the " I just got out of bed" sexy look and Andie pulls it off rather well.

Face: I read in your description that she was based off of multiple people and I definitely get an Angelina Jolie vibe when I look at her face, honestly your character is so beautiful.

Outfit: Top- I like how you always find ways to include those lines , like that's how you know it's your design. It especially works in your favor by giving it a clean , futuristic , military look.

Bottom- Black pants are always good for a spy or detective looking type of character and I like how you made her look battle ready by adding in the gun holders. My only question is what does the symbol on her belt mean because I notice that on all of your characters, like does that mean Femme Fatales in a different language or something ?

Gloves and Shoes - They really add onto the look and make the outfit a little more practical.

Overall: I think her personality and look makes this character just as good as any other " official" character, though I couldn't help but think of Talia Al Ghul  when I first looked at her ( not a bad thing ). In general I really want to see you focus more on this series that you got going , I love it and I'm kind of hooked now. As always I look forward to seeing more and keep up the great work !

Thank you! It always means so much to me when people take time out of their own day to check out my original work. It's very difficult to get eyeballs on characters that people don't have an existing attachment to or knowledge of, so it's truly a blessing to me when I do get comments or questions about them.

I actually did notice that you favourited that journal. Interestingly, I'd completely forgotten I had one. It's from way back in 2009, so you can only begin to imagine all of the changes that have happened to the series since then. For instance, the characters no longer have superpowers and Adrienne isn't their leader. Even Mary was written out recently.

Anyway, like I said, I'm glad you took the time to check them out and to comment on this piece. I'm happy you like this drawing and her overall design, which has evolved over the years.

To answer your question, which I always thought the answer was really obvious, is that the symbol is two Fs. One of them is flipped. You can imagine that Fendi and Chanel's logos are an influence on that.

You're welcome, I'm glad that my comment made you happier !

So how can we as viewers stay up to date on your original characters ? Do you have any story's on here or is it all in the character description ?

Oh okay now I see it , very clever, and again it was no problem at all

For the most part, everything is in the character descriptions. The four most recent drawings are the most updated. However, you can find the prologue to the novel I wrote that I was sending around in that same folder.

She looks beautiful! I always liked her black bob, but this is a great look for her as well. I really like her pose here. It's simple yet there's a no nonsense quality about it that really matches Andie's personality. I think the detailing you added to her uniform is one of my favorite parts of this piece. The boots are incredibly intricately drawn. Sadly I don't think I've ever mentioned in detail how much I like the design of your Femmes Fatales uniforms. As I was saying about the boots, I really love that light grey panel that goes down the front and when you pair that with the straps you have yourself some fabulous footwear! I also like the height of them. I think it's very practical for Andie's line of work. That kind of mid-length would provide some protection and ankle support for sticky situations. I'm also really in awe of the shading and highlighting you have going on with those straps around her thighs. That is amazing!! It has this amazing metallic quality that draws the eye right to it! That highlight in the middle of them is in the perfect position! You really did well with that. I'm telling you, your shading seems to be getting better by the day. I also notice that you're getting bolder with it as you grow more confident. The shadows and highlights you're using are getting more pronounced than they were when you first started! This is very apparent in her hair as well. You are also doing a great job with choosing the right tones for shadows. I really noticed this in the rendering of both Nichelle's and Andie's skin and around their faces. I hope you realize that this isn't the easiest thing to do, and you're great at it. It really displays your eye for color. I also really enjoy what you did with her belt and it's attachments! I also meant to point out in my comment on Nichelle that I really like the modification you made to the bodice of the uniforms. The way the ribbing doesn't go all the way up to the neck but stops at the bust line. That is so flattering! It adds more femininity to the look while still being very practical and functional. Her gloves are a fabulous touch as well! I've always loved the no sleeves paired with wrist length gloves. Very nice! I know you've mentioned a long while ago that you don't do much detail with your art but this is simply not true. Your eye for detail lies in these amazing fashion choices you make and what looks fabulous with what. I only wish I were half as good at that!

Moving up from there, I really love Andie's facial expression. It looks very thoughtful and contemplative. And again, the shading and highlighting are really bringing out just how beautiful her features are. I love the little line of highlight you have doing down her nose. It really makes the nose look petite. Her mouth is drawn beautifully and it's what contributes to her thoughtful expression. It's not a full smile but a slight one, as though she's thinking about something that made her giggle yesterday. Her eyes are slightly narrow and have a bit of a twinkle in them that carries this further for me. Her hair is just gorgeous! I I love the intricacy of the style. It's kind of like beach waves pulled to the side. And that swooping area you have at the top. That little area where her "bangs" go up and then curve dramatically down is really amazing! And the waves and wisps of the bottom part are so eye catching! You mix that with your amazing highlights and her hair looks healthy, glossy and bouncy! You're doing a fine job with those hair shine details. Really, it's beautiful! Let me guess...smudge tool? I love that thing! So handy for these kinds of details. I'm really so amazed by all your new pieces! I'm so looking forward to choosing one to comment on next! I owe you a third after all! Please keep this amazing work up. You are doing a fantastic job, my friend!

Wow! Another wonderful comment!

I'm incredibly appreciative of the praise you're heaping my way in terms of the shadows and highlights. You don't know this, but you're actually the primary reason why I've been so much more experimental with my colours. In a conversation we had about hair, you said that the higher the contrast the better the result. So I've been pushing to create more of a distinction between shades and part of that meant using white (and then making it transparent) instead of merely a lighter shade of a colour in order to do highlights. So, I really owe my improvement to you, especially in terms of the hair.

I'm also really lucky to have someone notice the slight change I made to the uniform. I feel blessed, since it shows that someone is paying incredibly close attention to my original work to the point where they notice a slight shift in the style of the uniform. I don't know what it was, but somewhere along the way it just seemed to make more sense to change the ribbing and make the top part closer to the collar. I'm glad you think it's an improvement, since I do as well. It definitely creates a nice line for the breasts. I was actually really concerned about her boots though. The middle section lacks any kind of detail, so I was wondering if people would be like "where are the laces?" Truth be told, I hate drawing shoelaces! I hope the straps let me get away with leaving them out. As I've mentioned before, with the gloves, they're inspired by flight gloves. It's an homage to her past as a pilot. I like to try to customize the uniforms, so it's essential to really put extra thought into the boots and gloves for each lady.

Believe it or not, I was actually very curious to see if you'd comment on this piece, particularly because of the hair. For me, I consider this more detailed than usual and has more hair pieces to it, so I was nervous to see what the reception would be like. The twisting waves are always difficult and I'm always displeased with them whenever I draw them cascading around the shoulders. But yes, that's definitely the smudge tool! Honestly, such a great tool. I love it. It creates such a nice shine for hair.

If you're really wanting to do a third comment, I do have a third Femmes Fatales piece coming down the pipeline. If you want to save it until then, I wouldn't be mad.

Like the design of the bodysuit, and her boots. Can't put my finger on why but she doesn't seem to catch my interest like Nichelle does.

Thanks! Well, Andie is but one of many characters in my ensemble cast. I like to think there's someone for everyone (for the most part).

So, it's kinda like the Pacific Rim or Expendables of the femme fatale genre? Sounds awesome.

The way I've always described the series is Charlie's Angels (the original '70s series) meets Sex and the City with a little Buffy thrown in. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is another influence.

Is this the style you're going to do all your "Femmes Fetales" characters from now on (that is, showing their name, birthday, age, likes, dislikes, etcetera)?

If so, I like it.  The drawing's nice as well.

Okay, just to make sure, the five main heroines are Andie, Adrienne, Nichelle, Jennette, and Melissa, right?

That'd be correct. Mary is another big character, as is Tai. He's arguably the most prominent of all of them.
