This was the second entry into my 28 Days of Black Superheroines series that I've been working on via Instragam in order to celebrate Black History Month.

Ororo Munroe AKA Storm is arguably the most iconic and recognizable Black superheroines in existence. She made her debut in Giant-Size X-Men #1 in 1975 and went on to become the X-Men's first female and first person of colour to lead the team.

Ororo is the daughter of an American photojournalist and Kenyan tribal princess, spending the first few years of her life growing up in Harlem. Her father took their family to Cairo to cover the Suez Crisis. However, her family was caught in an explosion and Ororo was the only one to survive, leaving her with crippling claustrophobia. For several years she lived on the streets of Cairo, initially as a beggar and then as a skilled thief. As her mutant ability to control the weather awakened, she travelled southward before settling into being worshipped as a goddess in the Serengeti. It was here where she encountered Professor Xavier, who thus recruited her into the X-Men.

From this point forward, Ororo was reborn as Storm, a fierce warrior and leader of the X-Men. She gained many friends along the way, lost many loved ones, and got married (and divorced), but through it all she maintained her dignity and grace. She's also been a member of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. She's even appeared in virtually every X-Men adaptation to date.

For Storm's entry into my 28 Days project, I opted for one of my favourite looks. She wore this a couple of times through the years, most notably during Chris Claremont's third tenure on Uncanny X-Men.
