Description Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Part 3 of 5.

Trini Kwan is an intelligent and articulate young woman whose level-headed nature makes her a formidable warrior. She is passionate about the environment and frequently spearheads projects to combat pollution. Beyond her charitable endeavours, Trini is a sports enthusiast and is particularly dedicated towards mastering Kung Fu. That said, she's also quite feminine and is actually an avid doll collector. She maintains a close friendship with Billy, the Blue Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and often has to translate his scientific jargon. She's also best friends with Kimberly and is frequently seen hanging out with her after school at the Youth Centre.

While Kimberly may have been my favourite Ranger growing up, I fell in love with Trini through my re-watch of the series on Netflix. I found her to be the most complex character in the series and really liked that she was the middle ground between all of the Rangers. She was smart like Billy, a skilled martial artist like Jason and she had a slick sense of style like Kimberly. Thuy Trang, who portrayed Trini, was a beautiful soul and she is truly missed. While she may not be around anymore, her legacy lives on through Trini.

When it came time to drawing the Yellow Mighty Morphin Power Ranger and her civilian identity, I really wanted to make sure I got it right. Truth be told, I think that the Sabretooth Tiger helmet was the fiercest of the original five's. Of course, that could just be my inner cat lady talking. Despite being a show that was filmed in the '90s, MMPR actually featured some pretty cute fashions, especially when it came to Trini's wardrobe. I wanted to do something quintessentially Trini, which meant a form-hugging sweater and a nice pair of jeans. The hair was fun to do, though I do find bangs to be quite challenging to colour in Photoshop.

I hope you all like this piece!

Looking at this made me feel a little sad. Her appearance is spot-on.

Nice!

Trini was my favorite growing up. I guess I liked that she wasn't stereotypically "girly" or something, plus I thought the sabretooth tiger was the coolest of all the zords. I was so sad when they took her off the show; I didn't watch for much longer after that.

What was so interesting about Trini was that she played with stereotypes in a way that almost defied them. She loved girlie things (she loved her crop tops and collected dolls), but she was also incredibly athletic. She studied Kung Fu and was intelligent, but was not presented as the token martial artist or the brainiac. These are part of the reasons why Aisha was such a poor replacement for her. She was essentially a Kimberly clone, no doubt meant to appeal to the same demographic that had fallen in love with Kimberly. Of course, I did air these grievances in the reviews I've linked with this piece. That said, it's a shame you stopped watching shortly after her departure. Since I've decided to try to watch all of the Power Rangers seasons/series on Netflix, I've been pleasantly surprised to find that Power Rangers Zeo is actually a pleasant step-up in quality from the preceding seasons.

Haha! Mine was Hilary Duff way back when she was in Casper Meets Wendy. Oh, being a child of the '90s.
