what about a tail that has many markings (All sewn in) and is one color on top and another on bottom? (Snow leopard) Is there another way of going about that? Or do you make four main pieces and sew them all together?

I would go and draw on the pattern were you want different colors and cut along the lines and put seam allowance on the fabric with a marker. then use different colors!
