Description The paths we tread are long and often harsh
Grey fog may mute the colors of the land
The sun may hide away, darkened
Many roads we walk alone
More often then naught we find ourselves lost and scared
Perhaps we never had a destination to begin with, even as we crave one
And yet...
Every once in a great while, we meet someone on these lonesome roads
They take our hand and show us the way
They give us direction in the formless mists
They remind us why we walk
But eventually they must leave us, a road we cannot follow beckons them
and as they fade into the fog we remember the message they imparted upon us
Keep moving forward

...

This is... insultingly late but I said I would do it, so it is done.
I know it's far past the time when this should have been said but... Monty was a great man, one who should have had more time.
For most of my life, I have not known what it was that I wanted to do with myself, I wasted my days away with half formed dreams of things I could do, but ultimately threw to the wayside. Wallowing in my own self pity and the woes of life, I delved into the depths of fiction; literature, shows, the result of dreams and wonderment and I found unequaled joy in them. When my life was at its lowest, it was stories that kept me going, dreams of better times and happier places, friends I had never met but who were so close at heart that it did not seem to matter.
Somewhere along the line I began to take note of this strange man named Monty.
I saw a man who felt that he could do anything if he simply tried hard enough but more than that WAS doing the incredible, a man who reached into the nothingness and drew out from it inspiration and creation because he had the detirmination and passion to do so. Monty made me start to think about what it was I truly cared about, what was it that I could feel such a passion for as to drive me to create something meaningful. Somehow this man who I had never met managed to help me see what had eluded me for so long;
I wanted to be a storyteller.
Four years ago I began to write my first novel, set in a world I am still shaping today. I changed my university major from what I was told it needed to be to what I wanted it to be.
Β I finally had the vision to see just how important stories were to me, they had given me perspective beyond my years, hope in my darkest moments, new meanings to life and the courage to explore the fathomless depths of the imagination. I have never been happier than I have been in the last two years and I owe a great deal of that to Monty.
My greatest regret may well be that I never got the chance to tell him that. We live in a world that is lesser for his absence but it is in his memory and in honor of his legacy I have found my calling.
If I can inspire even just one person as much as he did for me, make one person smile at my stories or realize their own creative potential...Β  I think I can die contented with my life.
So here's to you Monty, thank you for everything and may your legacy live on forevermore.

That beginning passage was an amazing metaphor for the profound affect Monty has had on all of us. May ever creative mind have the drive he had.

Do you think you can tell me a bit about your novel and when you plan to release it? I might go for it, being an avid reader and aspiring writer myself.

Thank you, that means a great deal...

As for the story:
"There is a land known as Grindivasan, an endless plane of existence set below the starry sea of eternity. In the beginning the land was in frozen darkness, unlit by all save for the stars in the sky and ruled by great and ancient beings, their names and deeds long lost to the sands of time. Humanity lived as animals, far below the surface and prayed upon by monsters in the deep and surface alike, holding desperately onto life in an unforgiving world. Things may well have remained this way forever more had it not been for the God's War.

Great quakes shook the snow-strewn land and great crags and fissures split the ice and stone as those above waged a furious war that shook the heavens. For those below, it seemed as though the end to their pitiful existence had come, but instead, something quite unexpected happened; silence fell...

The race of men, forgotten by the carnage which had ravened the world above, made their first tentative steps on the surface world, a world now bright, lit by a new star on the distant horizon, a star which drove the monsters away.
With the peace afforded to them, man grew strong, kingdoms were formed, great cities raised from stone to bask in the light of the now named Everstar.

As time passed and mankind grew stronger, they slowly begin to forget their past, so much has drifted into myth and song, who can say what is true anymore? Perhaps none of it ever was, instead it was simply the rantings of a young and fearful people who had lived for to long in the darkness... or maybe it is all terribly real.

Β Mankind has become the rulers of their own destiny, or so they believe, for it is now the forth age;a time of heroes, of ancient tales and a forgotten past resurfacing but more than that; This is a time of legends."

I'd ask that you forgive the rather rough bit above, I'm writing this far later that I should.

As to when the first novel is to be finished... I honestly don't know; between always having more of a world to forge and university I wouldn't be able to give you a time, all I can say is: When it's ready.

Β  Β  Trust me, the phrase "better late than never" definitely applies to things like this. This was wonderfully done, and i'm glad you got it out. Even though i only got to know his life after he was gone, he still inspired and motivated me to change my life and my path greatly, in ways i don't really think i would have otherwise. I am and will forever be exceptionally grateful to him for his last gift to a person he never even knew existed. I hope to one day relay to him just how grateful i am for what he helped me do. Sorry to go on a tangent on your artworkΒ Β . Anyways, thank you for this piece, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors friend. Can't wait to see what you bring out next. Hear hear, comrade. A solemn work for the sad passing of a great man, may he forever rest in peace. I look forward to reading your novel and seeing more of your artwork, friend. Have a great week

I thank you kindly, barring any unforseen circumstances the first of the novel series should be finished during my last year of university.
Unfortunately my artwork is sporadic at the best of times so I can't really say when I will have a chance to make more though I have been thinking of putting previews and snippets of my novel up on here so perhaps that can fill the long stretches between pictures.

Aye, he has left a lasting impression on a great many of us.
It is good to know that his legacy is one of inspiring a new wave of creators, not many can claim such a feat.

This is an awesome, fitting tribute. You shouldn't be regretting this wasn't done earlier, I am still in the midst of my second Monty tribute planning a car designed to be Lie Ren, I never wrote stories before I saw RWBY so I wrote a little tribute myself. Β Β

I'll keep an eye out for that car design, I would very much like to see it.
