"I took on this quest to find the great masks. I counted on facing both the cold and the Rahi. But this might just be more then I bargained for..."Illustration for a calendar-project I got asked to participate in. I can't say more about the details, but I'm sure you'll find out more soon enough.
I'm quite happy that I can upload a seasonal-themed artwork for once. And it's Bionicle on top of that ^^

About:
0.5 mech. pencil on paper,
scanned in,
painted in PS CS4,
with Wacom Cintiq.
Instead of merging the pencils with the paint after the roughs, I kept them separate and deleted their layer before the final upload.
~12-15 hours.

Too bad we can't see Tahu's face, it would be priceless! More so if he screamed like a little girl! But given Tahu's personality, that's not going to happen.Β Don't worry, Tahu! It's an ice type so it's weak against fire!Β
Also, did you give that creature a species name? I'm going to just call them Frost Serpents.Β
I love the Miru you put on the dragon's head. Since it doesn't look infected, I'll assume Tahu is just feeling unlucky today...

I think Tahu would look better if you gave him thicker armor, though. His anatomy looks a bit too human.

this is very well done, like all ur other pics i love the sense of movement and action but the serpent kind of looks like it was placed over the mountains and not IN FRONT of the mountains. do u understand what i'm trying to say? also i think Tahu's red armor contrasts a little too much with the rest of the blue and white scene. over all, i still thing u did a great job on this ^^

I love this one so much. I wish I could draw like that already. Looks like I have to practice A LOT more.

i think the arms/legs are too long, and I might had a filter over tahu's armour to blend better with the environment--but just my opinion, i guess i dont know. its very amazing and far far better than what i could do. love the creature and how nicely you merged the biomechanical part with organic, and the composition is perfect; so much beautiful details and painting

As for the critique: Indeed, the arms and legs seem a bit long and for a humanoid figure that's out of proportion, but since it's Bionicle I'ma be a cop-out and say Toa have ridiculous proportions already!
A filter might have been good, but I try to stay away from them to get better at achieving the look I aim for with just my brushwork.

Tahu looks a bit under-detailed compared to the rest of the piece. Maybe some peghole-like markings on the sides of his limbs would help?

Well, Tahu was the last part of the painting to get done and I was short on time, but yes, he is lacking a bit compared to the giant Rahi.
