Description I've been unfortunately sick for the last few days, but trying to keep myself engaged when I can.  The coloring job is a little quick and dirty, but I'll probably go back in and work at it more and more later.

I had an old short story/setting where it was kind of like a cyborg fighting league and she was a contender.  I didn't develop it as much as I'd like to have, but it was a fun idea and Alice was my favorite design out of the set.

Really like the posing you do! And anatomy is spot on, do you happen to use any sort of reference for them or just a lot of life drawing =o?

Thank you!  I'm feeling better, but I've got a few days of rest to go.

I haven't actually taken much in the way of figure drawing classes, and I took none while I was in college.  A lot of what I've done has been through observation of others' work and getting advice from some great artists I've been fortunate enough to become friends with over the years.

Do I use a reference?  Yes and no.  If I get an idea of something I want to do, I'll quickly rough out the figure with a soft brush (SAI's marker, for example) and then tighten it up a little into a rough sketch before I go to try any lineart.  If angles or positions of limbs start to bug me, that's usually when I will crack out something like (don't laugh) a Gundam model or even the ver. APSY Shino PSO figure on my desk, which has fantastic articulation and allow for you to get a lot of good ideas on how to achieve an effect.

Personally-- and every artist will probably give you a different answer-- I would say if you want to work on your anatomy, go do tons of dynamic, huge, bombastic poses and motions in gestures and sketches.  By forcing yourself to position limbs and hands and fingers into varying positions that may not normally make sense, you can get a really fantastic grasp of proportions, muscular/skeletal movement, and what is actually somewhat anatomically correct for how human bodies can bend, twist, and stretch.

Of course, a *little* exaggeration in that department is also fine, just as long as you don't Liefeld it, LOL.

Certainly is, and especially from the different artists back at work it shows. Even my boss says an artist has to cheat sometimes. Not be a blatant rotoscope of a whole piece however!

Awesome, its good to be enlightened by another artist! I really dig your work good sir, keep at it!
