When a new threat of the new terrifying foe (the 3rd party) is getting out of hand, Eggman and his Egg Army have no choice but to arrange a truce and cooperation with Freedom fighters and G.U.N. forces, but temporarily of course. A moment later, Eggman discovers that one of the remaining ancient artifacts that help maintaining/decreasing the power of this vicious enemy is hidden way deep down under the ruins (Dark Gaia temple) nearby Northamer Egg Army base. So Eggman give a special order for Clove to find that artifact and bring it to him as soon as possible. However, without proper tools and fearing that any improper excavation will ruins the artifact or its containment and passages, Clove decide to travel to the Thunder Plains Zone alone to negotiate with Lupe, the leader of Wolf Pack and to ask if the pack can use their knowledge help finding the artifact inside the ruins for her or not.

However, because of worrying of her sister safety, Cassia decide to sneak out from the base and catch up with Clove later at the Thunder Plains Zone (she even brings her a handmade white flag, lol) which upsetting Clove pretty much. But during their arguments, they're suddenly ambushed by the Wolf Pack and then there's a brief but fierce duel between two leaders as what's happened in the pic. Although Cassia later wanna join the duel and fight the pack in response, but all that is immediately rejected by her sister who keep telling her not to harm them. And soon after, Clove decide to lowered her Energy Scythe and surrender herself to the pack as an attempt to earn their trust, which forces Cassia to also do the same as her sister. Later, when the sisters arrive Wolf Pack's village, Lupe then order her crews to separate them apart and brings Clove into her hut alone for a discussion. After the door closed, Lupe who already knew Clove's true intentions then suddenly drop her fake hostility toward Clove, and Clove then thanks Lupe for quickly aware of the situation and staging the ambushes for the safety of her and Cassia.

Now for the question why the pack staging the ambush? At sometime before this event, Lupe met a mysterious person (a secret friend who already met and helped Clove before) who told her about the sisters actual conditions under the Eggman's brutal commands and the reason why the sisters joined the Egg Army. 'He' also asked if she can help him playing a small part of his plan to eradicate Eggman from this world for good by helping the sisters in secrecy, in which she agreed. But most importantly, he also warned Lupe that Eggman might hide either surveillance camera or some sort of recorders inside Cassia body for spying the sisters activities. So when Lupe who expects Clove to arrives alone finds out that Cassia later catch up with her unexpectedly, Lupe then have no choice but quickly instructed her crews to set up the immediate ambush just to make it looks like the pack never expect their arrival and don't know their true intentions. And after the meeting, Lupe certainly agreed to help Clove finding the artifact under the ruins. But of course, she still instructs her pack to keep acting their hostility towards the sisters to fool Eggman that possibly watching them at the moment...

1) This is an alternated version of Sonic's Archie universe, happened at some point after Sonic Unleashed incident. [Updated]
2) There were three of the ancient artifacts hidden on the different locations around the globe. However, the first one at Chun-nan was already destroyed by this vicious enemy to boost up its powers. Conquering Storm, most of her crews, many of the freedom figthers, and Gaia Phoenix were all severely injured as an attempt to stop it (I'll make some sketch-arts for this event also in the futures).
3) Another one was founded by Abyss the Squid and her crews in the ruins under the ocean at south of the Efrika continent and it was planned to reached the Eggman base to secure it in Eggman's personal bunker. However, the problem is this vicious foe can sense the location of the nearest artifact nearby it and soon Abyss then realized she is certainly its next target... How she could be able to escape is another topic I'll talk about in the futures also.
4) The wolfpack crews in the pic are the ones that actually appeared in Sonic Archie Comics.
