Watch and pay very close attention to the Valve SFM tutorials. That's how I got started.

I have been watching those and I am still learning but I can at least get the characters to move a little, and your work is amazing, I also got told by another talented person to copy some one but that isn't right

Well, look at it this way. If you can mimic someone's animation, means that you also have a general understanding of it. Of course, by that time, you'll have developed your own animation "style" (if it can be called that), which enables you to make your own fluid animations.
