The Tanith First-and-OnlyOriginally, there was three Tanith regiments raised for the Imperial Guard: the Tanith 1st, 2nd and 3rd - 6,000 men and a small number of vehicles and artillery pieces. When Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt is sent to Tanith to oversee the founding of these regiments, he is not impressed by the appearance of the men, initially describing them as "a scrawny, scruffy mob of soft-voiced woodsmen". His opinion of them changes quickly after seeing them in combat. He impatiently orders the regiments to begin boarding the carriers that will take them to the troop ships waiting to ferry them to their first warzones - a fortunate move which gets enough men off-world before the Chaos fleet strikes and destroys Tanith the same night. He confirms after leaving Tanith that this salvages three and a half thousand men and the majority of their equipment. It is unclear which regiments actually were saved from the fires of Tanith, but the remaining men are formed into the Tanith First, which is soon named the "Tanith First-and-Only" or...

Major Elim Rawne, or simply Major Rawne, is the second officer of the Tanith 1st. He is the highest ranked Tanith born, and has command of B Company. Often dubbed Major fething Rawne, Rawne is famous in the regiment for his dark cynicism as well as his tactical nous and fighting skills. He is refered to as srahke by Eszrah, which in the old Nihtgane tongue means: the keen-ness of a newly whetted dagger's edge. Rawne was one of the Gereon 12.

Yey finally I finished it! Its my first digital painting work im very happy with how it looks, I really needed to make something about my favourite novels, FOR TANITH FOR THE EMPEROR

Niiiice... I love Dan Abnett and his Gaunt's Ghosts series.
Though...I could've sworn it was Colm Corbec who was 2nd in command. *SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SECOND BOOK* And Rawne was made 2nd in Command after Corbec died.

Yes, of course. Class just ended and I wanted to say something before I left. I don't normally think of the Tanith as wearing helmets, but the way you shaped it and left the strap undone really compliments Rawne's style. His face is a little gaunt, pun intended, but that's just my seeing of things, and I see how it really brings out Rawne's character. The eyes and the tatoo are off the hook.
As I haven't read all the books yet, what area is that background from?

About the feedback of rawne's appearance, I just draw it as i imagine him, I think that is the most powerful thing about books, everyone is going to have an unique image of the enviroment in their mind.
You can interpret the background as you wish, cause i wanted to draw a symbolic piece rather than a descriptive one. For me he is in the barraks of the cozy Navarre

Yea I've read Honour Guard, and am currently caught back up to Necropolis. I actually jsut finished reading the battle at Veyvyr Gate. Good stuff!
And yea, I totally agree. I have a really odd image of them in my head, and I've notice almost every sketch looks different.
And for the background, that's excellent! The idea of an intrpretive background is really good for a series that spans so many settings. Lets you kinda fill in the blanks. Looks to me like some factory complex of Vervunhive, or that tunnel shaft on Fortis Binary. Great work!

Banda is Rawne's ex. Nessa is the deaf sniper who is second only to Larkin, and the only woman in the unit referred to by first name instead of by last name.

and yeh painting Gaunt would be awesome,in fact this digital painting came up thinking about painting Gaunt, but I think there is already a lot of stuff about him and I wanted to give importance to the gaunt ghosts ^^maybe next would be Mkoll, Larks or somebody else

I'm a big fan of the series, good job on the character portrait.
The only thing I'd change is the background.
The imagery suits the subject, but I think it needs to have it's colour adjusted to better match the painterly quality of the character. Right now it just looks too much like a photo stuffed into the background.

thanks a lot m8! and yeah I agree with you, I also think the background doesnt fix perfectly with him, but I've tried with some more color correction and ps filters and it also didnt work well 
maybe next time I should paint the background too ^^
