Agreed. Give freedom to Rhodesians too.

This is a painful question, but at this point I'm on the side of Afrikaners and Rhodesians. Should be established ethnic autonomy for these people!

Yes, or at least stop the violent hate crimes against them. I think the Rhodesians should get their farms back. And though we British may have fought the Boers, we're all friends now.

You are right!
War is not an excuse for hatred. We have a saying: "The enemy does not betray!" Who was your enemy can be your friend.

Indeed. Rhodesian singer John Edmond wrote an album about the Boer War. The final song was called "We are good friends now".

Wow, those songs are great. I have a grudging admiration for the Boer people. They were worthy adversaries.

I have to say that the British also showed examples of great courage and self-sacrifice in this war.
British and Irish songs (in Russian translation) is also very popular in Russia. For example, "Song of Bob Kennedy" or "Rocky Road to Dublin."

in English, we say Africans

No, you don't.
The Afrikaner nation is a South African nation of largely Dutch and French descent that speaks Afrikaans. (Lots of Afrikaners are part-Irish and part-Xhosa as well, but not all of them.)

In Afrikaans, the word "Afrikaner" literally means "African", as Ferrabra said, but since it's come to be so closely associated with this specific nation, the word "Afrikaan" is used for "African" these days.

I meant more that fact that they were using English and suddenly switched to Dutch just for the last word.

It's not Dutch, though: it's the international name for the Afrikaners. (Also, Afrikaans isn't Dutch. )

The slogan on the picture itself is Dutch, and the bottom line is Afrikaans, except for "Zuid Afrika" (it's "Suid-Afrika" in Afrikaans).

Afrikaners - this word also means "Africans."
