As you can tell, I'm no pro when it comes the backgrounds (espcially with tradional mediums). it was foolish of me to paint the background AFTER colouring the character. This is only because I finally decided on an idea for a bg after finishing the character. It was originally going to be left white but I couldn't stand it being bgless and had to put something there. This would also explain why the character seems out of place. (besides the colour)There are also quite a bit of other things that could have been improved here but unfortunatly it's too late to change it now. The downside of working with tradional mediums. but either way it was fun working with it again. plus it was good bg practice.

i have to ask but.. was the character meant to be holding a sword behind her back? cos her left arm seems like thats the pose it was meant for ^_^ =] but other than that i love the picture!!!

The shadow, the hair, the face are beautiful.. And the background really fits with the whole idea!

coloring and painting kinda makes it pop out more. nice idea on combining the 2.
mixing the two dark from vibrant makes the focal point go to the character and makes her stand out a lot more.
personally i think that this looks really good and for you to have used professional mediums to do it makes it seem a lot better!
keep up the good work and sometimes experimenting and combining types and styles can make it look better. nice job!

Sweet, only real critic is that right hnad (our right), bending your hand that far back for no reason is neither natural nor comfortable. It seems as if you originally planned for her to be holding something over one shoulder but then scrapped the idea without changing the pose...
Colouring is cool.
