This reminds me of in the movie, "The Illusionist." When the duchess was "dead" in the river.

Wow, this was a beautiful series. I've always been a fan of the Ophelia drowning scene since I saw the John Everett Millais painting in one of my high school textbooks. I'll say you did it justice. Keep up the great work.

However, since when is Shakespeare considered a faerie tale?

Thank you. The only Shakespeare I've read is Romeo & Juliet and a book of his sonnets. I took the name Ophelia for this series as it's related thematically - and it sounded better than Princess Shallot. Really I was just aiming for a dreamy, faerie tale-like feel for these photos and the name seemed to fit.

Millais's painting is beautiful. I prefer Waterhouse as a painter from that period, but Millais comes up in a close second or third.

*gasp* Sacrilege! You really should read Hamlet, it's one of his better ones in my opinion. And if you want a dreamy, faerie-tale feel, I would recommend the Tempest and a Midsummer Night's Dream. But honestly, your series worked great as depicting Ophelia's suicide, even though you haven't read Hamlet.

Actually, up until now, I've never seen Waterhouse's painting. I'm not sure if I prefer it to Millais, but it's definitely still beautiful.

I prefer young adult fantasy novels to Shakespeare. But I'll keep that in mind if I feel like picking up an 'adult' book.

I'm just totally in love with all of Waterhouse's work. Maybe partly because he painted a lot of redheads. lol

Heh, I used to adore YA fantasy, but not so much anymore. I find the themes are often too black and white for me. Not sure if you've read them, but I would recommend Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire if you want some more adult-themed fantasy. Easier to read than Shakespeare anyways.

Haha, well redheads have always been alluring. Probably due mostly to their rarity and because they tend to have paler skin, a sign of nobility.
