i try to depict my characters with realistic limitations. with 7 years of combat training and nearly 3 years of battlefield experience Dusk is not weak. but his strength is nothing spectacular. the average competently trained soldier can easily equal him in battle. this is why he favors an indirect combat style that emphasizes archery and tactics rather than a more direct combat style.
