Description

i'm really into manga, more so than anime, and i credit my love of manga to this one. Black Cat is what got me into manga.

the first manga i read was a YU-Gi-OH manga that i found in my middle school library. being so young i didn't know what manga was and given that it was in black in white i thought it was some kinda coloring book. though i say this is the first manga i've ever read truth is i only read that 1 volume.

in my teen years i got into anime. at first it was mainstream anime like Inuyasha, Naruto and Dragon Ball. one day i check out the anime commercials in a Dragon Ball DVD i had. all those commercials were for anime that i had never heard of before but the one that intrigued me the most was Black Cat. streaming was still a new thing back then so it took some effort but i was eventually able to watch Black Cat. this was my introduction to non-mainstream anime. a few years later i learn that many anime start out as manga so i find some manga site to read manga and the first one i read is Black Cat. Black Cat was the first manga i've read from beginning to end and it's what sparked my love for manga.

so anyway, with my personal history out of the way time to actually review this.

Black Cat is about a former assassin turned bounty hunter named Train Heartnet. as an assassin Train was the best, he was a perfect killer though he didn't find much joy in this life. that all changed when he met Saya Minatsuki, a bounty hunter or sweeper as they're called in this manga. Train grew to admire and envy Saya's carefree and joyful lifestyle and so he retired from Chronos, the organization he worked for. Train's partner Creed Diskenth who is obsessed with Train does not take well to Train's change of profession and so he kills Saya. the main plot of this manga is Train trying to live his life as a sweeper while dealing with Chronos who aren't happy about him leaving as well as Creed's own forces who keep coming after him.

overall Black Cat is a pretty good shonen manga. though this manga has a special place in my heart i'll be objective and say that it's nothing as spectacular or as grand as say Naruto or Dragon Ball, but it's an enjoyable read nonetheless.
