This is my redesign for Anton Beruka/Brooke/Beluga/Veruca from the Shogaku Ninensei/CoroCoro manga. There were two designs for him (seen on the left), but to me really didn't look like a Sonic character... A common problem from early non-game Sonic media. I mean, Antoine D'Coolette from the Archie comics and SatAM? His early design was weird to me (as was Sally, Rotor and Bunnie's tbh). His Modern Archie design fits much better imo. Also, the original characters from the Fleetway comics? With the exception of Super Sonic (who I only count as a Fleetway Original because he's separate from Sonic himself and very unlike Game Super Sonic), they would look very out of place if you just put them in, say, Sonic Adventure. Yes, even Johnny Lightfoot.

Anyway, back to Anton. I wanted to see if I could redesign him so that he looks like a lizard (like in the Shogaku design) while also looking like an actual Sonic Character (like in the CoroCoro design). The only other reptilian Sonic character I could think of was Vector, and I thought he was the perfect candidate to model Anton after.

As far as I'm aware, Anton's not supposed to be any specific kind of lizard, so I just ran with whatever I thought looked good lol.

As for his last name.... I believe it's either Beruka (direct romaji) or Brooke. Beluga makes me think of the beluga whale, which he is not, and Veruca is a bit problematic because his letterman jacket in the Shokaku Ninensei design has the letters AB. Given that Nikki/Nicky has a big N on his sweater and Eimi/Emi an E on hers it's likely that AB is Anton's initials. (On the subject of Eimi... She's an early Amy Rose. The E on her sweater is the reason I don't use the Amy spelling)
