You've done this with love, beauty and respect....You certainly know my beliefs and I just want to tell you how profound this is...a personal connection....

Dare I say I think it may be your most compelling image...and that is saying alot considering the depth of your work....

Thank you, Sonia....

I made this image just hours after seeing the passions of the christ movie. I had a lot to say about it. One of my most buring unanswered questions of my life is: "How would societies be different if we percieved our savior to be feminine? Would our values and priorities be different? How would we choose our leaders?" and a million related nitpicking questions. This piece begins to get at some of that for me. Thank you for taking the time to notice and comment.

Thank you for being such a great friend. I hope one day we can share a meal and a long chat.

I've often complimented your use of light, but this near-silhouette is particularly imaginative. The crown and the expression mix in a very interesting way. And you are so beautiful!

My goodness, you are quite talented with your self portraits... This is lovely and disturbing, yet neat, mysterious, and almost tantalizing.

Once again, wonderful work.

I am glad you are pleased...I hope you contniue this...you ever though of having that pic of you like that in a crucifix postition? I think that would be great...and if done right definately a favourite on my list...

I'll keep this in the back of my mind while I plan future shoots. My ties to Christianity influence my work all the time. I'll be building a set in the studio soon. Maybe this idea will become part of the set I design.
Thanks for your great idea.

There all kinds of great symbolism and references to use. More tah I can ever address in my lifetime. The Bible is a fantastic source of inspiration.

Your self-vision is so simple and direct, yet totally expressive and elemental...You transform yourself, but remain yourself...an amazing gift...And I do love this in its unaltered form...

I posted these last two unaltered, just for you.
I'm starting to have more inner conflict with the to manip or not manip ideas. Its like my own personal yin and yang.
I'll try to keep the balance right.
Thanks for faveing the piece.

I really don't have anything against the idea of manipulation...in fact several of my images have been used for them, with varying degrees of success...I put it down to my "old skool" philosophy of "get it in the camera."

My experience is showing me that there really are 2 camps. It reminds me on the star bellied sneetches.
I think part of my personal resolution will come with more knowledge of the software. The further it looks from the original image. Kinda like when you cover a song: its only worthwhile if the new version offers something very different.

kentsoul In reply to fiercesoniaa [2004-03-03 18:34:36 +0000 UTC]

I've found that the "very different" thing offered is usually dreadful. Have you heard Rod Stewart's "Great American Songbook" cd? He should be tried at Nuremburg for a crime like that.

I'm sure I still sound "old school," but all the manipulation mania reminds me of the turn of the century, when photographers used all kinds of soft focus and and coloring tricks to make photographs "look like art" -- until Steiglitz, Strand and a few others showed that it had been art all along. It's not lost on me that when I consider your work, the first thing I think of is the photo of the girl by the washing machine...it's all there, with no additives or preservatives...

I guess my take is that you really can live on bread alone...if it's really really good bread.

We are opposite then. I have loved photography since I was very young. But I have only just begun to hold a paintbrush.
I am glad I can open your eyes to my great love. I feel so honored that I can practice my love so consistantly.
