I did the event thingie and waited till I beat the game. So I go to the island with like lv 50ish and I'm like shit...I caught him fairly quickly though (thank god for willow wisp)

I tried numerous times and got fed up, left, did a few more battles, and came back. I hit him with ONE attack, threw a ball, and got the bastard.
My swearing could be heard from ten miles away.

Yep. I learned that after I caught it XD;; They only made the shiny sprite so if they decide to put it in possible future games (there are rumors that they won't make any new remakes or whatever ;A

This is more funny considering I caught it first try with a great ball when I did it for my friend (who had severe problems catching Victini), but when I tried for my own game... nope. 10 ultra balls before I mis-clicked and killed it, maybe 15 resets before I finally got it.

If you looked on Bulpedia, apparently even though a shiny does exist, it is programmed to never appear. It looks like it was he, who was trolled.

I would have tried a primer ball if I knew how to get them back then. But then I might be one of those guys that likes to play catch em all on hard mode and land all the legendaries in little white balls that break if you breathe on them.

I say keep trying. If you have any ultra balls. Use a pokemon who has move that either paralyzes or puts to sleep. Then just keep chuking pokeballs at the bastard until it work. It worked for me! and I still had two ultra balls left (that's after I had tried this technique twice. I'd recommend saving just before you confront him in case it takes a couple of tries.
