My headcanon is that Shepard destroyed the Reapers and because he brought the maximum number of war assets to the final battle, the Crucible was not so badly damaged that it could not distinguish between Reapers and other synthetics... so EDI and the Geth are still alive in my fan-fiction, and the Mass Relays and the Citadel weren't destroyed. Also there was no Starchild; no, Shepard just activated the Crucible and wiped out the Reapers. The End.

In my mind, everything past the point where Anderson seems to die was a series of hallucinations brought on by head trauma and blood loss. Shepard wakes up in the Normandy medical bay, Anderson stabilized nearby, and the whole crew telling the commander that no, there was no star child.

Congrats, your ending is now my own personal head canon. It even works with the male counterpart, because hugs and the magic of friendship are f-ing universal, plus everyone gets a puppy. "Sweet"
Seriously, I don't think I've come a cross a trilogy with a more universally hated ending than Mass Effect. Judging by the amount of alternate ending fics on fanfiction.net, I'm gonna say my thoughts are pretty valid.
