Description Sketchy revised version of this here artwork from waaaaay, way back:   Shows pretty well how far I've come, doesn't it?

Life is full of hardships. We all know that. I wanted to translate this to the revised version of Abby's portrait because it mirrors what happened to her as well. Hopefully I can get over my lack of discipline to finish this and do it justice.

Ahh, Abby is so lovely!! So much to admire in this version of "Simply Abby"   Her face, skin, and eyes all make her look so realistic and you translated the look of "hardened from life's hardships" onto her so well. Especially when compared to her older portrait, which is so much softer.
I remember seeing the artwork of her from way back posted and loving it as well You have come far from then, and improved so much!!

Aww, thank you so much!   I'm glad that, even after all these years, Abby still has fans, haha! I've been told by some that they actually prefer the way I used to draw her in the past, but frankly speaking, I wouldn't want to go back there. I'm happy with the way my art style has developed over that period of time, and I'm looking forward to see where it'll take me.

You're welcome! Haha, she's too lovely not to stay a fan of!!
I, personally, really like the way she's evolved over the time that your style has developed She just looks better and better!
But as long as you're happy with how your style has developed, that is all that matters   I will be looking forward to seeing it as well, and to the next "Simply Abby" piece.

{Late reply is late, haha!   Finally catching up on replying to a lot of the comments cramming up my inbox.}

I'm glad to read that, haha! Really, I am. I mean, I'm still not a 100% sure/happy about her design, that's why I keep drawing her head crest differently. I'm still in the process of figuring out which style I like the most. But we're getting there, haha! Just as we "evolve", our characters evolve with us, right?

(Hehe, better late than never!)

Aw, I am glad to know! I am sure in time, and with a few drawings, you'll figure out which style of head crest you like best and are most happy with.
Absolutely! And it is always so neat to watch as both the character and the artist grow.

ERMYGERD ITS ABBY! FINALLY! and I must say she looks pretty damn awesome! so I guess id better suck it up and face the facts the Yautja have non human eyes. And face the challenges in drawing them normal D: man, why do preddy faces gotta be so hard!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fiji-Fujii In reply to TheDarkBladeHuntress [2016-01-13 19:10:08 +0000 UTC]

Well, her eyes still sort of resemble human eyes tho. I wouldn't know how else to change them. But I really try to get away from the oversized, sort of anime-ish eyes that I used to do back in the days. My way of drawing has changed, after all. And I wouldn't wanna go back. I'm proud of how my art style has developed over the years. And this isn't something I exclusively went through; you actually see that in a lot of artists, although not in all. Some keep their style, some change it. And I've always liked change.
But yeah, dude, tell me about it. Pred faces aren't getting easier, the more detail I add to them, LOL. New challenge, heck yeah!

TheDarkBladeHuntress In reply to Fiji-Fujii [2016-01-13 19:29:16 +0000 UTC]

What you talkin bout? I think her eyes do look more like Pred eyes now you did a fantastic job!

Dude you should be very proud of how your art styles have improved. Like I have noticed with the Kessians and their corn rows on their bodies, back then when you would draw Nua you didn't have clusters. Like I would just see only 5 or 8 in just a row and they were kindov small. Now you do it in clusters and they look more sharp and deadly, which I love! plus back then you didn't really draw Nua with his horns (or maybe it was that one picture) I don't know. Lol shit Nua is a hunk and I don't care what you do with him he will always remain a hunk (even though Theron is better looking...just sayin ), but I much likely preferred your new drawings of him ^_^

Lol like I haven't drawn really any Pred faces in 2 years because they are hard! and I'm always displeased with how Luar looked. But I think that my art skills have improved some that I will draw her more again. But at the same time I have so many new OC's that I have created within those 2 years that I still need to give some love! I still haven't drawn Lucy again yet  (my tailmouth) and I promise Shay that if I adopted her, I would give her more love than to just "have her".

Challenges are good for you! sure they are frustrating and you just want to say "fuck it" and discard your challenge image. But you don't, because it is a challenge! D (lol that really didn't make any sense XD)

Fiji-Fujii In reply to TheDarkBladeHuntress [2016-01-13 21:40:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, they do look more predatory, if nothing else. Thanks! I tried.

Yeah, I didn't realize why my Yautja and Kessians looked so tame up until I tried out clustering their tiny horn plates a little bit, giving them a "wilder", more natural-looking appearance. Took me a couple of years, as can be seen, until I applied that change, haha! Sometimes it takes you a long-ass time until you get the epiphany of how to improve your stuff. And Nua's horns are only a sign of him being matured. Without his horns, that's him as a youngster/adolescent.
And I'm glad to know Nua still has a loyal fan. I've been neglecting him and the other Kessians I've made, as sad as it is, but I'm gonna try drawing him more this year. Him and Blue as well. Been neglecting her even more than I did him, sadly.

I know, dude, I know. Their faces don't get easier, even if you keep practicing. There's always stuff to improve because they have pretty complex faces. Like, I've been changing Abby's looks a lot as well because I can't decide whether I like that little horned crown she has in this picture, or if I like the more "traditional" approach of her more. It's hard, lol.
And yeah, I feel ya. I've recently been trying to draw my Luminian girl Liselle some, by officially pairing her up with another unknown OC of mine, Dr. Maximilian Kess. But seeing how, in the revised story of Abby and her mate Khan, they will have adopted my "slug" Yautja girl Lali , you might actually see more of Liselle soon.

Haha, pretty much, yeah.

TheDarkBladeHuntress In reply to Fiji-Fujii [2016-01-14 00:45:32 +0000 UTC]

No problem! ^_^ but still, wish I could draw like you! D:

Well they look awesome!, either way. Oh and you know what would be really cool with your Kessians? you should have them in more of a tribal look. Like with some body modifications, scarification, war paint, tattoos. Because I was looking into some other Amazonian tribes and other tribes across the world and they have some pretty neat traditions and stuff. Like when a boy reaches a certain age he has his entire body covered in cuts and these symbols and all that. Plus I finally was able to watch The Green Inferno (movie sucked and it was not at all brutal!) and that tribal woman was a huge inspiration for me for a future Kessian that I might do. She looked really bad ass.

Oh ok. I thought with an adolescent he starts budding horns rather than not have them at all. I'm pretty sure with infants and children they don't have any horns, sharp clusters, sharp end of tail anything like that. But that's good to know

Lol yes I will always still be Nua's fan. Oh and is the whole NuaXKatya still cannon? like we have not talked about that in a long time and I'm not sure if that's still cannon. And you do need to draw more Nua, I miss him. And Blue, I miss her to  plus I remember you telling me that you were going to draw some Kessian adoptable's? wonder if you still have that in mind or not. Or the current Kessian males in pin-up poses?

Dude honestly, I am not a fan of Yautja having the "human" head look. Like I know that people like it because of the "Queen Predator" cosplay suit and its more easier to draw but to me, that's not natural. So I prefer the horned crown like I have on Luar. My lady Pred's head was more inspired with the queen Xenomorph head. Until I went all gung ho and I added more into it. People like more details, even though I like being lazy and not add as much.

And that's great that you are drawing more of Peep's Lumies. We need more artwork out there of her species! plus Liselle was so much fun to color. I cant wait till  traummalerin.deviantart.com/ uploads Ella's clothing sheet like she did with the rest of the Lumies. Though she still not has done any of your Lumies, i might ask her if she could do yours. Oh and i love Lali, she's adorable! you should actually draw her as a fully grown adult, would love to see that.

I'm sure you'll reach that level someday. As I tend to say ever so often, I already practiced all my life and yet I'm not done; I still have a lot to learn myself. These things take time. I'm sure you'll eventually get it done, too. Just keep at it, as you do right now.

I was actually thinking about coming up with some sort of festive tribal outfits and stuff for my Kessians, I'm thinking of masks (as can be seen in one of my oldest sketches:

Mature Content

) which were and still are heavily inspired by Disney's "Atlantis: The Lost Empire", one of my top favourite animated movies. As I mentioned in another conversation we had about the topic, though, there's so much new information I thought up about the Kessians that even the article is extremely outdated by now, and I just don't know where to start with the editing. It's kinda overwhelming, is what I think I said. I don't want to rewrite the entire article but I feel like I'll need to.
(Also, does that mean "The Green Inferno" doesn't compete with "Cannibal Holocaust"? My best friend was interested in watching Green Inferno but if you say it's terrible, I can tell her that it's not worth it.)

Well, from what I remember, the story with Nua and Katya was an AU (Alternative Universe) storyline. It's still a thing, naturally, but I wouldn't call it canon. Canon is, and probably forever will be, Nua X Blue. Even though Nua was originally created to be a competitor for Khan'arban, Abby's mate, he eventually ended up being paired with Blue in a different story, which is their story. And even if MK says she likes Blue better with Odhran, Nua and her are still gonna be my OTP, lol!

I really don't mind the "human-like" heads on Yautja females. The problem with this trend, I think, is that I was one of those, if not THE one who introduced this look with my design of Abby, for which I took the Predator Queen costume as a reference. Precisely because I liked that cosplay so much, I wanted to translate it to my artwork and my Yautja characters. I still kinda cling to it, you know. But I'm trying to integrate some more realistic traits into my way of drawing Yautja, so most of my females, over time, got those characteristic head crowns. As Abby ages, hers will become bigger. You can see some examples here:

I have a tendency to keep the females' foreheads smaller, with Ruri and Uria being the only exceptions so far. If you look at any pictures I did of males, you'll clearly see the difference in their head crests:

That's my current head-canon. Females have different head crests. Makes them more distinguishable, now that I removed the boobs, lol.

Well, I never asked her. That, and besides Liselle, I don't have any real Lumies anyway. Lazuli is a hybrid, she doesn't count. But I have seen her adaptations of your and Shay's and Illy's characters, she did great work on all of those!

I know. Your parents had you drawing since you were able to pick up a pencil. I had to learn all my myself and i remember my very first drawing reference was Raven from Teen Titans because that TV show was the shit!

Dude i LOVE Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Till this day i still listen to the soundtrack. Like, why cant Disney make animation like that anymore? now its all CGI and i don't like that plus why cant Kida be a Disney princess? right next to Belle and Nala, she is like my 2nd favorite Disney princess. She's just so awesome and cool looking. Its like they consider Mulan a Disney princess and she is not even a princess. She does not even marry into royalty. Plus Kida is also a huge inspiration to Luar as well, more so Nala.

And yea you should design some festive tribal clothing. Id love to see those. And as for the Kessian article, i did not realize that you need to change so much of it. I thought only a few paragraphs and just adding to it. But if you truly need to start from scratch, then that would be the best. What i would do is that during your break at work or something keep a note pad and jot down new things that you want to add to the new article. And over time you have more and more until you feel comfortable and have the free time to re-write the new article. And you can just look at the note pad and you really don't have to think about what you want to type down.

Cannibal Holocaust was way better than The Green Inferno. Yes there were some brutal scenes, but it did not nearly compare to Cannibal Holocaust. Shit even the title "Cannibal Holocaust" is more brutal sounding than "The Green Inferno". Like if she wants to watch the movie then she can unless she wants to see some people shoving a bag of weed down a dead persons throat, a guy jerking off, some eyes being gouged out, limbs chopped off, FGM almost performed, someone being torn apart and people being impaled.

Lol oh ok. I just wanted to be sure that they are still a thing. And as for the Yautja heads, i understand where you are coming from. Its a cool concept but i don't think that it will ever happen. If by some chance they have a female in any Dark Horse AVP comics with that concept, then its official and i can be happy with it. And i have even thought about designing a Yautja with that concept but i am not totally sure.

Well I'm sure she could. Lazuli is half Lumie and isn't Liselle full Lumie?

Fiji-Fujii In reply to TheDarkBladeHuntress [2016-01-17 17:13:49 +0000 UTC]

Personally, I have nothing against the CGI-animated movies Disney makes these days. In fact, pretty much every single one of those I've seen is beautifully animated IMO, although I couldn't tell you which one would be my favourite, lol. I very much enjoyed watching all of them. Although, of course, I'm also much more impressed with the "traditionally" animated movies. I personally value the higher frame rates to the lower ones, mainly because I have a tendency to closely look at how things are animated. I think - not sure though - Disney movies have 24 FPS, which is why the animation in movies like Pocahontas, Atlantis etc. look so natural and fluid. There are a bunch of non-Disney movies that have that too, e.g. The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado and so on. These are the ones I enjoy the most. I'm pretty sure I mentioned that at some point, but as you can imagine, I'm a very visually oriented person; the more awesome special effects during a movie are, the more likely I'm gonna love it. That's basically my reason for having enjoyed Cameron's Avatar to the degree that I did. The bioluminescence, the theoretical animal and plant life, the colours, everything! Soooooo inspirational, lol!

Hah, I don't even get the whole "Disney Princess" thing. Because yeah, Mulan definitely isn't a princess, you hit that nail on the head. Plus, if they classify Pocahontas as a princess, which I personally don't think she is, they should give Kida that title too because she's also the daughter of the chief of her people. Doesn't make a lot of sense, haha!
And aww, I didn't know Kida and Nala were the inspirational characters for Luar. That's awesome!

I've come to love writing on the keyboard though, I rarely write on notepads anymore these days. Don't even know if I still got one at home. I have a desktop PC, a tablet and now my smartphone as well. When I was still attending uni, I usually had my (back then) laptop and later my tablet with me, and most of the scripts and stuff the professors prepared for us were digital anyway. So, yeah... being lazy with handwriting. But don't worry, I'll finish that stupid article SOMETIME. I want to.

I only read one comic with a Yautja female in it, I forgot its title, but the female looked basically like the male, except for her lower parts/sexual organs. I found that comic waaaaay back and for a long time, I drew the Pred ladies with boobies because I personally liked them better that way. My views shifted over the years, though, which is why I tend to portray them without boobies these days. (Same applies to the Kessian ladies, btw.) You see, opinions can change. And mine did. I'm not saying that it HAS to be that way, though. Nobody has to take over my views. If, for example, Jasmo wants her Pred ladies to keep their boobies, so be it - I'm not gonna frickin' remove them when I draw Otic or Ti'nai. I can only shake my head when people interpret what I'm saying wrong.

Liselle is a 100% Lumie, but Lazuli is half Lume, half human. That's why I said she didn't count.

TheDarkBladeHuntress In reply to Fiji-Fujii [2016-01-18 02:56:00 +0000 UTC]

Well I feel with the CGI movies they are using it WAY to much. Like I understand that its much easier and it gets the movie done much faster but to me its really not the same. Plus I know Disney is made for little kids and all these kids know now a days is the CGI (Tangled, Frozen etc) so I have no need to bitch. But still, was part of my childhood to and I miss the old animation Lol and I'm pretty sure that Avatar is the main inspiration for your Kessian race. I agree, the billion dollar movie was amazing and I have heard that they are making a sequel to Avatar this coming December! so we get to see more bioluminescence and possibly Jake and Neytiri's baby.

Lol right? and Kida is more of a Princess than Pocahontas because she rules an entire city! plus now she is queen. Maybe they don't want Kida because her outfit is not totally "Disney appropriate". But what about Ariel? yea she's really not Disney appropriate because she is wearing a sea shell bra and showing her stomach but she is a princess. Maybe Disney did not like Atlantis or they have completely forgot about it. But at the same time, Atlantis is more focused on Milo rather than Kida and the rest of the Disney princesses are centered around them.
And yea Luar was inspired by Kida and Nala. I guess its because I love their personalities and the fact that they are just looking out for their people and want to make things right with the world.

When I still wrote my fan fiction, I would jot down ideas I had on a notepad. Like I remember when I went to my vocational school and before class had started I would get into the circle time area (I studied Early Childhood Development, we had preschool Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) and I would lay back on the pillows and I would jot ideas and write my fan fiction. Then when I got home I would type it on the computer. Lol I believe you. You could finish it this week, next week, next month or in 5 or 10 years but I know you will eventually get it done

I think the comic is called "Deadliest of the Species" but I am not sure. Plus I have an image of her in my mind, she wear more purple armor and with yellow skin and her bio mask was really out there in design. I like it when lady preddies have boobies, that's just me. But as for the Kessian ladies I guess I have no choice than to draw Kat with no boobs because they are your species.

Oh ok. I figured Liselle would be all Lumie.

Fiji-Fujii In reply to TheDarkBladeHuntress [2016-01-18 15:12:22 +0000 UTC]

I feel like I have to correct you right there; Disney isn't just made for little kids. I think Disney even makes the point that their movies are not just aimed at a young audience. What was it they always promoted in their ads? "Fun for the entire family!" or something of the like. And if you watch very closely, if you analyze the movies, you can actually see the hidden adult jokes. That's why Spongebob Squarepants is so well-liked by a lot of adults as well. Because of the jokes that aren't obvious to kids but very much so to adults.
But yeah, I kinda get what you're saying. It seems like Disney lost all value for traditional animation techniques. I don't think they did, though. Maybe they will occasionally get back to it, like they did when they made "The Princess and the Frog".

Haha, wrong again! Cameron's Avatar, despite the Na'vi's astounding similarities to my Kessians, was not the inspiration for that species. At the time I created Nua, who is the prototype Kessian I designed, I didn't even know about Avatar yet. My inspiration actually comes from a different source; I'm sure you have seen that movie series "Blade", with that black daywalker vampire who's being all badass with his shades. In the second movie, the so-called Reapers are the antagonists. And they were actually my inspiration for the Kessians.
I've heard or at least read about that planned sequel as well. I'm honestly not sure what to expect of it. I'm not a super-dooper-fan of the movie, I was mainly fascinated by the world they built and the sources they used to design it. Many of the things you see on Pandora can actually be found similarly in our own oceans. I've always been extremely interested in marine biology and the deep sea, which is why I did recognize some of the inspo they worked into that movie. I liked that, lol.

Lol, and you know what the best part is? They claim Ariel is only 16, too! It's hilarious!
I'm not taking this whole "Disney Princesses" ordeal too seriously anyway, though. I'm not that much into it. I enjoy the Disney movies mainly because of their smooth animation. Same goes for some of Dreamworks' movies. I mean, yeah, I do enjoy the plot and the characters as well, but I have a tendency to judge a movie by the way it's been animated. I also tend to choose comics and manga after the art style that appeals the most to me. I don't look for good plots, I look for art styles that I find pretty.

That's pretty much what MadKitty does as well. All writers seem to prefer that method. But you gotta realize one thing about me - I'm not a writer. I only write RPs, yes, but I don't really write actual stories. The ones I have attempted to write were never finished. I'm not sure if I'll ever finish them.

Oh, yeah, that was it! "Deadliest of Species", spot on! And well, you can draw your Kessian ladies with boobs if you prefer them that way. You're one of my closer friends here, so you have my consent in that aspect.

Yeah, I'm actually curious as to what the depiction of the canon female will look like, if they ever decide to bring the females in and start showing more about the culture and stuff.

It really makes me curious and also with a bit of anger because so far is like we saw nothing about them, just that they are inteligent and proud warriors with many technologic things to hunt

I know. Then again, the fact that there is so little known about them canon-wise gives the fans a lot of freedom to think up their own things. Which is why I like this fandom so much, it leaves a lot of room for creativity.
