Description
By far the most elaborate commission I've undertaken, this is an interpretation of a Dungeons & Dragons character belonging to my friend Nate, from back in Michigan.
As with all DnD characters, they start as mere descriptions, so I inquired to learn as many details as I could about his character, Chronicler, and the Firbolg species in order to represent him accurately. By all accounts, I appear to have succeeded.
The forest background was the hardest part of this project. I've never created an organic environment before, and I'll admit it's not something I would easily do again, until I can train myself in painting techniques, because cel-shading and inking trees and plants as I have here is not the best approach. But, after enough layering and trial-and-error, it came out alright.
I also learned in the process that bio-luminescent mushrooms and fungi are actually real! I knew glow worms and undersea creatures had bio-luminescence, but I had zero clue that real glowing mushrooms existed, and in several kinds. So these are fairly accurate to real world counterparts, just a tad more luminous.
