What is this for?

I'm basically doing every unit in 40k with every weapon variation, including units without models; just to have it on my hard-drive I s'pose.

You know about Vassal 40k right? if you didn't you might want to look it up. I'm not trying to discourage you from what you're doing because they don't have a whole lot of sprites and they arent very custom. *sigh* I really wish GamesWorkshop made a digital version of the board game.

Yeah, I know about it. And I didn't think you were trying to discourage me, mate : ) I'm fairly proud of my 40k sprites, and although I place Vassals as more diverse (at the moment), I place mine as higher quality.
I lack modesty, sorry xD
But yeah, the idea behind me starting this was maybe finding a programmer, and doing a either a Vassal-based mod or just an RTS - Dawn of War style, but (obviously) top down and more battle based (as in, NO buildings and Apocalypse-level battles).
And a GW digital boardgame is wishful thinking - they wouldn't do it, ever. It would destroy profits; they wouldn't be able to charge ridiculous prices for their models anymore, and even if they DID charge for "virtual" models; they'd be practically no conversions or scratch-built models. All the hobbyists who've spent years honing their skills to perfection would have to become 3d modellers (or pixel-artists).
I admit though, digitally, it would be pretty cool.

I know it would destroy their whole thing with the models and all but its really hard to play the game without a digital model.
I used to collect yu-gi-oh cards when I was a kid and never understood the rules to it at all. The only things I knew about the rules were from the tv show which I followed religously for the first season and they made up random bullshit rules sometimes in the show that totally fucked with me. So for months I played my friends with random bullshit rules we made up on the fly.
Finally I got my hands on the game boy advance game and I learned the entirety of all the rules and most of the strategy in 2 days.

That'd be the exception not the rule, though. I personally find learning things easier by actually physically doing it. I get what you're saying though - I don't actually play 40k, so the rules are just something I can't be bothered to grasp, I'm just a massive background addict.
I love all the background fluff, and I love the models - I love the idea of the 40k universe; I find the rules of GW on tabletop too limiting (from what I understand of them) - in my head, it doesn't seem right that a monstrous warmachine bristling with guns has even the remotest chance of missing another monstrous warmachine, y'know? That the supposed all-powerful technologies of Space Marine vehicles are lesser than Imperial Guard vehicles.
But yeah, maybe one day, GW will release some form of basic online play - I foresee them forcing people to pay for "models" though xD

I Love the tyranids I bought the codex and read the whole thing in like 2 hours XD

Funny you should mention that; I saw a cloud today and I kid you not, it looked like a Tyranid Hiveship. From a background view, I really do like Tyranids; everything about is just...primal. They're not evil, and they're not good. They're just animals.
But from a pixel-artists view, I 'effin hate them, they'll be the most difficult to do xD

Haha, cheers mate.
And yeah, I've noticed it - if I had the patience, I'd correct it. Might do it in future. Maybe.
But thanks though : )

It's just for fun, really. Well, I say fun; fun implies having a great time doing it. It's a bit of a slog to do some of these sprites, and it's easy to get frustrated with 'em - but I feel good when I finish sheets and whatnot, gives me a sense of completion.
Chances are, once I've finished 'em, I'll just release them as a resources pack for indie developers.
