Then again, much of Rasputin's miraculous resistance to death was due to a combination of incompetence and blood libel.

On the one hand, they claimed that they gave Rasputin enough cyanide-laced wine and cake to kill five men, but, on the other hand, Rasputin's daughter said that he avoided wine and cake because they made his stomach sour, and that if one is going to put cyanide into cake, it should be put in after it's baked, as baking/heating cyanide causes it to vaporize (which is why roasted almonds are safe to eat, while raw almonds are poisonous).
