My entry for a contest at animexx.de. :>The dragon is named Chianti (obvious title is obvious) and belongs to me, the species belongs to .
This picture was the beginning, the middle and the end of my artblock. From now on I will draw more often again. Hopefully.XD

Yeah... the sky is the one part I don´t really like here. The way the trees blend in there does look wrong and even though I tried different colour combinations and spent hours to get it right, it just didn´t turn out the way I wanted to.*sigh*
Maybe I should just have made it black and left the trees out or something.:/

Gosh, I know that feeling! Right now I try to get back into traditional media a bit, since my pc overheats every hour in this weather and needs to be shut of until it cooled down again.
It´s fun drawing with crayons, but compared to my digital works the drawings I make with them look horrible. I just don´t realize which tones I have to add first to get nice colour blends and were I should leave white spots for highlights, etc.XD

Oh, yeah. While working with traditional media you have to think a few steps ahead all the time! I'm no good at that xD I rarely touch crayons or even pencil now, except when I want to draw something for a close friend, but I'm never satisfied with the outcome :/

It´s so very different from digital painting, but it´s so much fun! Even if I suck at colouring with crayons, I enjoy it very much. Maybe someday I´ll be better at this, but I probably will never be a pro. Not as good as with digital stuff, anyways.

Oh yeah, from time to time, I enjoy it also, but when nothing is pressuring me for good performance. And that was so long ago 'coz I pressure myself a lot. And I like digital much better still.
Right now even, I doing something by traditional means. I've prepared yesterday the template and sketch and everything but I fear I will mess up and I can't T.T If I submit it, you will see why I can't.

Then maybe make it mixed media and colour it digitally first...?
Even if you mess up with crayons later, you still have the sketch and this other version of it saved.

Das Bild hat mich Nerven gekostet... wobei das Moos wunderbar leicht zu zeichnen war. Die Flügel, zumindest die Markings, habe ich dagegen ganze drei mal neu gemacht, bevor ich mit dem Muster zufrieden war. Artblock eben. Aber das ist jetzt zum Glück vorbei. Das nächste Bild ist schon zu... etwa einem Drittel fertig.:3

Es tut leuchten wie eine Art Zitronenfalter aus der Ferne, von nahem stellt sich heraus, dass er wohl dem Bösen verfallen sein muss und dann stellt es sich als Drache heraus : D Ich mag es, wie du mit dem Betrachter spielst!
Mit Leuchteffekten kriegt man mich sowieso, und die sumpfig-nachtige leicht abweisende Umgebung (die das abweisende Gehabe des Drachen unterstreicht) mag ich auch. Der Nachthimmel ist ein toller Kontrast zum leuchtenden Gelb. Two thumbs up und viel Glück beim Wb!
Artblock: sie machen einen nur besser/stärker, je schlimmer, desto doller ;D aber trotzdem gut, dass deiner jetzt um ist! Ich freu mich auf mehr Bilder (ohne Druck machen zu wollen XD)

Ich wollte von Anfang an ein Muster auf den Flügeln, dass der Zeichnung irgendeines real existierenden Tieres gleicht. Nach einigem hin und her ist dann das dabei herausgekommen.^^
Kontraste sind immer was tolles. Ich bin ein Anfänger, wenn es um Farbpaletten und Atmosphäre geht, aber manchmal bringe ich dann doch etwas vernünftiges zu Stande.*lach*
Momentan habe ich drei Skizzen/Linearts, aus denen was anständiges werden könnte. Mal sehen, welche(s) davon als erstes fertig wird.

The species is called "Schimmerflügel" (german for Shinywings). But they mainly live in swamps, so you are kind of right.

You can make any glow-effect, if you add a layer in normal mode on top of your other layers and paint with a bright colour and a soft brush (low density) on and around the parts you want to make shiny. There are some other layer-modes, that work as well. In SAI they are named luminosity, lumi & shade or screen.
In order to make it seem realistic, you have to add highlights and shadows onto the surrounding area, as well. Like the reed, water and the tree in this drawing.

Ich muss nur mal eine richtige Referenz für ihn malen, man sieht kaum was von seinen Markings wegen dem Licht. Oder dem Mangel an Licht an einigen Stellen, wie man es nimmt.*lach*

Das ist wirklich gelungen.. Wie ein Schmetterling, wirklich wirklich hübsch. Ich würd zu gern mehr schreiben aber.. ich muss mich auf das WB Ende beschränken x'D
Trotzdem soll eins noch gesagt sein: ich finds richtig genial wie du die Ohren und Hörner gezeichnet hast und wegen dem BG musst du dir keine Sorgen machen
Bin schon sehr gespannt auf die Story wenn's auf Mexx mal freigeschalten wird

Ich habe lange überlegt, was für ein Muster er bekommen soll. Zuerst war es etwas eher geometrisch-technisches, dann Giraffenflecken und am Ende dann der Schmetterling.:3
Bei den Hörnern war ich mir nicht sicher, ob sie so noch ins Rassemuster passen. Da du dazu keine Beschränkungen geschrieben hattest, außer die Anzahl, habe ich mein Glück mit einem etwas exotischeren Design versucht.
Seine Story ist jetzt nicht sooo detailliert, bzw. in meinem Kopf ist sie es schon, aber ich mag sie (noch) nicht mit der Allgemeinheit in diesem Umfang teilen.*lach*

Da hast du ne gute Wahl getroffen mit dem Muster, da das ganz am Anfang auch der ursprüngliche Hintergedanke zu Schimmer-Flügeln war
Die Hörner sind okay, und designtechnisch sind keine Schranken gesetzt. (ich glaub zu diesem Thema editier ich nochmal eine Erklärung zum WB)

Die Flügel mag ich an dieser Rasse auch gern. Aus dem Grund wollte ich ja auch einen eigenen Drachen dazu kreieren.
