Uh, being illiterate has nothing to do with speech.

Yes it does. Being illiterate doesn't just mean you can't read or write. If you're illiterate, you can't speak, read or write very well because:
1) You can't read, which means that you won't be able to talk very well (The people who talk around you {Who may or may not use proper grammar}will be the one's who will influence your speech. {Not being prejudice or racist})Β
2) You can't write very well or can't write at all (Writing has almost everything to do with speech, as it is also a form of talking.)Β
So um, yeah, it does have everything to do with speech.. You misunderstood the original definition of "illiteracy"

....That a big answer for a small question. You feel strongly about the subject then?
Most of speech is learned before one can read or write, so most speech patterns that you develop in your early years don't involve writing anything down. So yes, it would be because of the influence of others around you. Parents and siblings of his, perhaps? I wonder who might have been the one to teach him to use that specific accent... Ah really want ta know.

I sort of agree as well, and here's why: though to me writing/typing is a part of speech, not all of it is. So yes, I can see where we are both correct.
