xD That bit about the arm wrestling is really funny. I love moments of comradery.
Also, isn't it weird how we both always draw our characters wearing headphones even though they could plug into the music source directly?

And now a question to the series co-creator Volts48  : What is on YA's Awesome Mix?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Volts48 In reply to ClarktoonCrossing [2017-05-24 06:14:32 +0000 UTC]

To answer the first question, it's because how else would the average viewer know how he is listening to music?

and the second question, well since music like that requires a license fee that we can't afford, plus, logically, music in this galaxy would not be the same as it would be in our galaxy. It also doesn't help that a good percentage of music has been banned by the Twin Emperors.

But since you asked, I would imagine the song he has playing when he pushes that button would probably be this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfeNhw…
You know, now that I think about it, I could totally see YA owning every album by The Eagles. Yeah, yeah I could totally see YA as an Eagles fan. XD

That I get. Some ideas don't go into Clarktoon lore cuz I figure people wouldn't get it.
Still, it's weird that robots themselves have to wear headphones isn't it? Or at least the kind you plug in.

Wow, just when I figured I couldn't hate those Twin Emperors any more than I do already.
Also good point, but let's say if somehow iTunes was introduced to this corner of the galaxy and you and SIM-N didn't have to worry about copyright...

XD That'd be funny. I just picture YA humming to Hotel California.
I see AH gets her great taste in music from her uncles.

Shrug*

Yeah, they are jerks.
Wellllll...

Hotel California, Tequilia Sunrise, Life in the Fast Lane, New Kid in Town, Already Gone, Desperado, One of These Nights, Lyin' Eyes; he wouldn't be humming it, at that point he would start singing along until someone walks in and catches him doing that.
Or songs by Santana, that would have blown my mind if those were the first songs I ever heard as a child.

Oh really now? And what if music does AH listen to as a blind girl?

Now I'm picturing YA is one of those guys who collects vinyl records despite NOT having a record player.

ERN-E: So, what, it was like space Footloose?

Forget humming, now I just see him in the cockpit wearing a white shirt and socks singing into a comb.
(looks up Santana on YouTube) ...This stuff is from the early 2000's isn't it? This feels very early 2000's.

AH: I really have no preference on music, although if I really did have to pick, I do have a soft spot for classic jazz, classic rock, and piano music.

If Vinyl existed in the Orionis galaxy he would, though he is self-conscious about it and prefers to listen when no one is around or he has his privacy.

YA: "Sort of, some songs are approved by them but they are the really dull ones, hardly any life to them. Even when we get a new beat song with some life, it is immediately remixed to be dull and boring."

You are looking at Santana from the past decade. Their stuff from the 60's and 70's is way more interesting, heck, you want to see energy, here is their performance at Woodstock:

I could totally picture YA flipping on that song just as he is about to take the ship into battle and fly in taking names while it plays.

ERN-E: Yeah dude, that's essentially space Footloose. All you're missing is Kevin Bacon and all that fun 80s cheese.

(starts watching) Thank goodness. That early 2000's nonsense was making me feel uncomfortable for some reason.
Cover art looks like Dark Crystal artwork under blacklights. Still, good music. It'd definitely be interesting to envision a space fight to any of this music.

AH: Hmmm? (listens to the song) Oooh, very nice.

True, but considering the majority of the music he has is considered illegal and was illegal even when he began collecting, he feels like he still has to hide it, even though RLY knows he has this collection, YA is just that conscious about it.

YA: "Did I mention if the artist refuses to comply the Emperors make them "retire" and they are never seen again?"

Well listen to those old goodies and trust me, their older stuff is classic rock that sounds ten times of awesome than that newer stuff you came across.

Oh yes, Steely Dan is that band that mixed classic rock with jazz and hot dog if it isn't awesome for it.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4phEVz…
Here's a song that was made for a movie and wasn't on an official album of theirs but I love it all the same. It's a song so good there exist two versions: the version you're hearing with the saxophone outro and the version with the guitar solo outro.
Which leads me to ask, if you had to choose five songs that you feel represent you and/or you love to hear again and again, what would they be?

Yeah, okay, that makes a lot of sense. Making music illegal doesn't, but that does. Seriously, would the Twin Emperors arrive on Sesame Street with shotguns in hand? And before anybody can make that joke, please leave Elmo alone.

ERN-E: Wouldn't that be any musical artist ever then? I mean, have you ever SEEN a musician? Some of them are just downright weird. Heck, SHORT-E and I met Daft Punk once and they only spoke in lyrics from their songs.

Trust me, I believed you after listening to just the one song. I'd appreciate it a lot more if I didn't have Footloose stuck in my head.

AH: Good question, but it is tough to think of just five off of the top of my head.

AH: Do not worry Uncle RLY, I am still thinking up a list of my own, but for now those are all very interesting songs. I was unaware 102 ever listened to Michael Jackson.

Is it wrong to say I prefer the version of I Won't Back Down from Barnyard? I mean, the movie's not the best, but I do like their take on that song. Also, I kind'a think the song fits for both ERN-E and AH.

Oh boy, why do I have a feeling we're about to discuss the Clarktoon Mix Tape.
AC/DC for Candy Banger? Dude, that is totally on the nose! Candy is definitely a heavy metal kind'a girl.
As for EMIL-E, that's a pretty good one.

Honestly, to keep things simple, I just choose a top 5 songs that I feel represent the character or they would listen to in order to give you a sense of their personality. "Girl's Got Rhythm" is the case where the lyrics seemed to fit Candy more than it fit AH.
I was going through Beyoncé songs too but they didn't seem to fit AH either.

ERN-E: ...You mean tires? Nobody's really used those since the 22nd century.

You fool! As catchy as those songs are, I've been listening to Disney music all day! Once you start hearing those iconic, nostalgic tunes, they won't leave your head! No matter how catchy your music is (which it is), NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO THE POWER OF THE SHERMAN BROTHERS!!!

AH: Well Friend 102 is mysterious like that. Maybe I should ask him why he picked this one.

Actually the movie's version of the song was sung by Sam Elliot. Although the two do sound very similar. I think I prefer the country version, it just sounds more bad@$$ to me.

Still, given how crazy, off the walls, and unapologetic Candy is, it seems she definitely would be a heavy metal gal.
Would any of those songs fit EMIL-E?

YA: "But what about those ones?" (points out the window to an antique car dealership right across the street from the building)

Hmm, perhaps a Disney song parody mixed with Star Wars?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pORNNB…

RLY: "Good luck. He left to handle some altercation involving feuding drivers several blocks down."

I'm just going to keep trying to forget that uninspired movie and pretend I forgot that even happened in the movie.

Well for Candy, I'd give her quite a good number of pop songs that fit her personality. Namely this song comes to mind: www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2ss1Y…
I mean, those lyrics just SCREAM like Candy would be saying that to Freak, though with the beat, makes me think she's driving down the street with a care-free attitude as the wind blows through her hair.
EMIL-E? Hmm...tricky since a lot of Beyonce songs are about "forget the man, ladies you got the power to handle this." Which is fine but considering EMIL-E has a very sturdy relationship with ERN-E, it wouldn't exactly fit her. Only one that could come to mind when I think of the two of them would be "Crazy in Love."

I saw this. At first, I wasn't a fan of the singing, but it's actually pretty fun.

AH: And he did not call for backup?

Then time to change topics! Animated movies that actually WERE awesome!

...Not gonna lie, the fact that the song had boy in the title had me nervous at first. xD But yeah, I could imagine Candy kicking @$$ to this song.

Well that depends, does it have to be directly Disney and Pixar or can we exclude them to give fairness to studios and people who have made animated films?
Cause one non-Disney film that comes to mind is "Waltz with the Bashir."

AH: True.

No, the movie can be made by anybody, I just can't help it if my answers are mostly films by Disney and Pixar. I mean, most of the best animated movies are made by these guys. In fact if it wasn't for Walt Disney and his crazy imagination we wouldn't have full-length animated features in the first place.
Haven't heard of it. My non-Disney catalogue is mostly live action save for DreamWorks and a few other Warner Brothers movies. What's Waltz and the Bashir about?

I believe that.

RLY: (he shrugs and walks off as AH can't help but get a bad feeling.)

Well if you want to talk about pioneers, Max Fleischer was doing more experimenting in the field of animation while Walt was still doodling in his garage. In fact, while Disney had put together Snow White and the seven Dwarves, at the same time that was in production, Fleischer was putting together a feature animated film of Gulliver's Travels, he was nearly done until Disney beat him to the punch and Paramount Pictures, who was releasing Gulliver's Travels, saw what a success Snow White was and made Fleischer go back and add music numbers to the animated movie. Movie was eventually released in 1939, making it the 2nd animated feature film ever made in film history.
As for Waltz with the Bashir, see for yourself: youtu.be/ylzO9vbEpPg
The movie is an animated war documentary about a man trying to recall his war experiences during the 1982 Lebanese War as the animation is used to visual show his war horrors.
Want more animated movies I bet you haven't seen? Try this on for size: youtu.be/SgCxCZNkQ9E

Yep, and most of them kind of get in the down and dirty sort of lyrics.
Thanks! It's sort of hard to choose songs for EMIL-E since I can't get a strong bead on her personality outside of being tough. So I just rolled with the random selection that also sounded tough.
I dunno, what songs do you think fit Em?

Bruce: Stuff sells like hot cakes.

ERN-E: Don't you sell hot cakes.

Bruce: I did, but it didn't sell as much as the anti-freeze mocha.

ERN-E: Of course.

AH: Friend ERN-E, were you aware of Friend 102's predicament?

ERN-E: Yeah, he's dealing with a pair of Motor Heads. We've taken down a dozen of them before. Why? Did he call for back up?

AH: No, but something doesn't feel quiet right.

- - - -

Max Fleischer... Max Fleischer... why does that name sound so familiar? (googles it) The guy who made Popeye and Betty Boop! Oh yeah, he's cool. I love watching the old 60s Popeyes cartoons, because they are so ridiculous! That Spinach fixes all the problems! I swear, if Popeye fed it to someone who had cancer they would immediately be cured of the cancer! Why don't they use Popeye anymore? Or Betty Boop or Felix the Cat or any of those older guys? If they could be funny back then, they could be funny now right?

Still, dude, why'd you have to go say that? I liked thinking Walt came up with the idea first! Well, regardless, I still think Walt and his animators left a sizable impact on the world of animation!

You and your foreign pictures.
As for the second one, the first few seconds alone feels like one of those animated transitions from Monty Python. Whenever people ask me if I ever wanna take drugs, I'm gonna show them this trailer and tel them I clearly don't need them.

Again, perfect for Candy.
Well let's see... EMIL-E is a succubus who's flirty, clever, friendly, loyal to her friends, and tougher than she appears. She appreciates people who can look beyond her beauty and can see her for who she really is. Her powers involve using emotions, including amplifying and manipulating them. But she hates manipulating emotions, although sometimes when she's enraged her less angelic side can come out. She hates the concept of fate since hers was essentially to be the bringer of the apocalypse and is trying to learn more about magic. Since, y'know, it'd be cool to have a KST member who uses magic as apposed to our usual mix of science gone wrong and machines.

AH: This is AH. AH would like to know who YOU are.

ERN-E: (whispering to her) Are you aware you just referred to yourself in the third person?

Actually, I wouldn't mind if Tom Kenny voiced Popeye. This is one of the few times his voice doesn't annoy me. He actually sounds like he's trying to sound like the original Popeye voice actor. Either way, I'm excited to see Popeye make a comeback. I really hope they give a better reason for him to not just immediately eat the Spinach. I mean, seriously, the fight would be over before it even began. I'm pretty sure if Popeye fought Superman and he ate the spinach, his fists would somehow turn into kryptonite.

Oh no, conflicting emotions! I like creativity, especially when animation is involved! They can do things live action just can't. But that also means whatever it is that's scary is way scarier than live action because they CAN do anything.... MY HEAD IS GOING TO- (head explodes)

Crocie: Oh come on! Can we NOT go a day without his head exploding!?

??: "Oh, that's not important right now. Are you calling for that tall dark nuisance? Because he's rather busy right now and, frankly, I don't think he would talk to you even if we let him...he's not dead if that's what you're asking...but we'll fix that soon enough..."

Well then.

Shoot, uh, will this fix that?

AH: (looks to her uncle, who can tell by the look in her eyes to start tracking the signal) Not if I have any say in this.
