Description The Feroxi Khans are two of my favorite characters in Awakening! They have such an amazing dynamic together and are so easy to root for. Let’s show them our barbarian roots!!

I thumbnailed this piece in my sketchbook with lots of frantic energy, and I hope that feeling came across in the final painting as well. Thank you also to ~Shiso who helped me with some last minute crits.

These two are amazing. I so wish that you could pair them together in the game to get the S-rank though I understand why they didn't do that.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that they're both Kahns, since only one of them is supposed to rule at a time depending on the victor of each tournament, it might be possible that their law forbids them to wed as it would conflict with their political lives, like if a husband and wife ran against each other in a presidential election.

I loved these 2 as well.

FE:A had such awesome characters. It would be so cool if they made an anime of it or at least a special or something.

You know, from all the strange combinations you had for marrying your characters together... I think it's really sad that you can't marry the Khan's with each other...

They would be such a nice and challenging couple. I guess, if they were about to argue about something in their marriage, they would start to duel it out XD

Shippuden23 In reply to Rutana [2013-09-08 01:53:51 +0000 UTC]

I agree. It's a shame that certain characters could only married with the avatar. It would have been nice to pair these 2 up even if they didn't have a child character.

Rutana In reply to Shippuden23 [2013-09-12 02:28:05 +0000 UTC]

Exactly!

I just missed some conversations in general. There are some siblings that I really liked to support with each other.

Chrome, Emmeryn and Lissa for example, or Say'ri and Yen'fay.

This is probably my only critique on the game at all... that some of the conversations were missing and others were too generic (some father-child conversations just don't hold up and are really unfitting. Vaike & Nah, Libra & Gerome and Virion & Inigo for example.). I know it would've meant more work, but I would've loved to see a bit more variety in these conversations - especially at the ending, when the conversations are mostly ignored for the character endings...

Shippuden23 In reply to Rutana [2013-09-12 07:56:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree. I was so disappointed when certain sibling characters couldn't talk and many of the generic conversations didn't fit for certain characters. It would have been nice if some of the conversations changed.

There are also some conversations that would have been nice. Like if Tiki and Nowi could talk with each other and with Panne (since the 3 of them can turn into beasts). It would have also been nice if Crohm and Sumia had more supports since they were very limited. Wouldn't it have been cool to see how Crohm interacted with Panne or Miriel?

Rutana In reply to Shippuden23 [2013-09-12 14:15:37 +0000 UTC]

I had the feeling that, except for Chrom and Lissa, the writers had this fix rule that every conversation between two different genders have to create an S rang, except for parents and childs or children silblings. And in that case? Why not an S Support as well! I would've loved to see a special S Rang for children to their parents, and I'm sure that there would've been a way to tell the game that this S rang is excluded from the wedding-S. It's especially sad in terms of tactical uses. If I put my whole family together in 2 pairs of 2 (Chrom, Avatar, Lucina and Morgan in that case), it would've created a very powerful unity which a great tactical value. It's hard to see that the bond between children and their parents can't be as strong as with their special someone. It might be understandable from the childs perspective, but I think that a mother might love her child at least as much as her husband, even with these difficult circumstances.

But hey. It's something they can use to improve on the next part ^^

The game, as it is, is nearly perfect for the Fire Emblem series, so I think it can handle a downside as well ;D

Yeah. If they keep making the other games as awesome, as FE:A they may have a new permanent fan.

ah, well, I really enjoyed the other Final Fantasy Games as well. I haven't played all of them, and didn't even beat all I have, but I had a small look on the progress the games made over the time.

And I think, Awakening nailed it. It has the best improvements without loosing some of the old appeal. It's much easier though, but then again, you can play it on the harder settings, so I guess that makes it up ^^

I look forward to the next game as well. I doubt they will impair instead of improve what they made so far.

It was good that they gave it their all and the game sold well, otherwise it would have been the last one since the series has been selling poorly for years even in japan when it was most popular. I hope the Shin Megami tenseiXFire Emblem crossover game sells well so we can have an FE for Wii U but I'd be ok with a new handheld game as well.

Rutana In reply to Shippuden23 [2013-09-17 02:59:17 +0000 UTC]

I didn't knew it sold back in Japan, but I can understand why actually.

The Radient games (Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance) made some huge changes to the franchise that many didn't liked. For example, supports used to be done on the battle-field. You just placed your units next to each other and after a certain amount of rounds, they could talk - right on the field - and you could go on. It was possible to max a support in one battle, easily. Even more with different characters around. This changed with the Radiant games, where you could support between the matches. And in contrary to Awakening (or Sacred Stones), you couldn't do missions between the chapters. So you had a certain amount of time to support your characters, which made one of the key features of the game too complicated. At least if I remember it right, I didn't checked up if my memories are correct XD

Radient also introduced the Taguel. Manakete were known since the first game, where you met Tiki. You never had other animals, and now the games actually concentrated their stories on these new races.

There were a lot other, subtle changes as well, and all in all, it felt different.

Awakening managed to make a bridge between the classics and the newer games, maybe disappointing some older fans for how easy it is, but at the same time, gaining a huge lot of new fans, which I think is pretty neat and necessary.

They needed to attract new fans. They're old fanbase wasn't big enough to support the franchise. FE is a niche title after all. Besides, the casual-normal mode is optional. They still have the difficulty from the older games, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rutana In reply to Shippuden23 [2013-09-17 11:53:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes and no.

While they have it optional to loose your units forever or not, they still give the opportunity to level your units to max, even changing their classes to gain new skills.

The only other Fire Emblem to do this was Sacred Stones, not with the class-change, but with the opportunity to level your characters.

In all other Fire Emblems, you could only travel through the chapters. There was no worldmap you could move around and where you could fight undeads or weak npc units. You moved from story-chapter to story-chapter. If you needed to level up your units, you had to rely on the Arena, that was placed on several maps. This was a one-to-one fight between your unit and an opponent. If your unit died, it's lost. If you won, you could toggle the new fight - but without healing in between. You had to bet money to fight, but of course you won money if you survived. It's way harder and more complicated (much saving and loading) then it is in Awakening, where they left the Arena out entirely.

So even on hard and Lunatic, you still can level up your units and raise them well, which makes it easier for you.

Wow, that's crazy XD

I guess it may have been good to make some changes since that seemed a bit tedious.

Rutana In reply to Shippuden23 [2013-09-18 13:23:41 +0000 UTC]

It was challenging.

But you noticed that the games became more and more easy over the time. First Sacred Stone with the ability to level up, and thus gain gold and buy weapons more efficiently (also something that was limited before), then the Radiant games, which I felt were easier as well, and also changed a lot compared to earlier games.

I think that Awakening still offers a good challenge, but it definitely feels more easy.

I like this approach though. It makes the difficulty optional for the player, which reaches more people. (For example, I  chose the classic mode for my first playthrough, and only activated the beginner mode for my support-grinding, to make it faster)

Some people speculate maybe they are siblings or somehow related? But in my mind, they already act like a married couple anyways and I wish I could S-rank them!! Can you imagine what their awesome barbarian child would be like!?!?

They're not siblings at all. The game itself mentioned it.

Their child would be so kick-ass.
