Description Just something I was playing around with recently. I though I'd put it up in honor of the recent announcement that Seth McFarlane is doing a new Flintstones. It's kind of what I'd like to do to the guy who signed off on that idea. I just don't see it as a good fit. Is he going to make it "his" type of show, and god forbid redesign the characters like his own perfunctory style.

Back when I did "Flintstone Forgery", I entertained the idea of doing a new Flintstones series. I liked "On The Rocks", but I was picturing taking the look back to season one, ditching the kids and hopperoos, and making it what it was originally aimed to be - an adult series. Not "adults only", but even more like a primetime sitcom than the original ended up being. As true to the tone of the first season as possible, with just a bit more post 90s edge. It seemed like a fun fantasy project, anyway. I figured Warners would be pretty reluctant to let some upstart take on an iconic property if they even wanted to greenlight any new incarnation. So I made a couple of short Flash things and moved on.

So now they are going to attempt to "reboot" it, but instead of seeking out an unknown like me, or more sensibly give such a project to John K and company, it's going to be another McFarlane show? Isn't 3 animated series enough to split your attentions on? It's not a stylistic match, unless Seth has been harboring a desire to mix it up and do something with a different voice. I won't assume it's a bad idea completely, but I'd have preferred any revivals of the show not be attempted until I managed to make a name for myself and could get it done.

On the other hand, beloved characters or not, they kind of ran the concept into the ground over just 6 seasons. My version would have been more about the characters and more believable stories. I hope this new one doesn't just end up going out of their way to add "rock", "stone" or "gravel" to all the modern appliances not around in the sixties. And guest stars playing their stone age selves. I guess we won't know for a couple years what will come of it, anyway.

So here's this little loop (if it doesn't loop automatically try right-clicking it). An endless beating...

I agree, but the McFarlane thing seems to be a rumor nothing has happened yet. And if it does I sincerely doubt it will be a hit. The classics are classics for a reason and should be left as they are.
If Β Warner Brothers wants to update the Flintstones perhaps they should pick up where the movie Rock a Bye Baby left off:Β The new Rubbles

I echo the majority here. I am very much not a fan of Seth's style (drawn or humour) but you're probably right. He's a big name (somehow) and that'll be why he'll get to murder one of my fave shows of all time. The style you use is a whole lot closer to home. Agreed about John K. If he could steer away from dirty gags and some of the mental and sexist stuff, he'd be perfect. At least folks like him and yourself can draw the characters properly.

Thanks. I should probably put up the second version of this cycle. Same head pounding but it goes back and forth with a strangling section now.

As long as he doesn't have them running around naked, puking and making gay jokes non stop while remembering the time they had some unlikely job or some TV show they saw.

He may surprise us with a well done update, but I'm not too confident I'll like the design. I have a feeling they'll be more concerned with writing updated "stone age" gags anyway, like his quote about "what sort of animal would an iPod be?" That tells me they'll be happy with the same robotic design sense the other shows use.

He obv. is a fan of H-B cartoons, I'm sure he gets the show and the jokes, but it takes more than that to be able to revive a series. Like John K said, some people think the characters are the franchise. But they aren't. What makes the franchise great are the people who made it. As long as Seth Macfarlane knows how the show really works, it should be ok. But I doubt he does. He was probably given the show because he's god damn Seth Macfarlane.

Lifted from a screen shot, and cleaned up in Photoshop a little.
