“But what about those Midgardians?” Thor stops before Loki can drag him to the gateway, faintly pitying. There’s something about this race that intrigues him, although before seeing them in person he had thought them quite beneath his contempt.

He turns to his (older? younger?) brother, tilting his head.

It had been a very odd afternoon, a month ago, when he had stumbled upon this man who claimed to be his brother from three thousand years hence. (But he had proved he was indeed Loki, time and time over.)

Loki merely shrugs, and reaches for his arm, to pull him away before they can be caught up in the mess. “You’re a prince of Asgard,” he reminds Thor, “and they are but mortals. Their lives have never been long to begin with.”

Still, Thor cannot help but look back one last time, wondering. And then they are gone.
