Description As you probably haven't guessed, I'm a huge fan of the Muppets and these Holiday specials are the most disappointing I've ever seen to come from the Jim Henson company. I really expected A Very Muppet Christmas Movie to be good after the success of The Muppet Christmas Carol, but no it was a total flop and a sorry excuse to just make it a spoof of It's A Wonderful Life. The film is also about Kermit and the gang trying to raise money for the Muppet Theatre to keep from being torn down from an evil rich villain. That plot pattern worked so much better in the new Muppets movie. Not only that, but the Christmas jokes and pointless cameos with the Crocodile Hunter just make this film really lame. Especially with Whoopie Goldberg as God.

As for A Muppet Christmas: Letters To Santa, this one is even worse! As you haven't even guessed it's just about the Muppets trying to deliver their letters to Santa when the post office is closed early for the holidays. They not only do it for themselves but for a little girl who lives in the same apartment as they do. All this plus even more pointless cameos like with Whoopie Goldberg again. This film just plays as another campy Christmas special like the cartoon, Grandma Got Runover by A Reindeer.

So I'm going to have to agree with Statler and Woldorf on this.

Happy Holidays!

I definitely agree that the basic plotline of "Very Merry Christmas" worked SO much better in the recent movie, especially since it was worked around in a way that made its point about the franchise as a whole trying to prove itself relevent to today's audience. And I especially hated how out of character Kermit was in this special. I know for a fact that yes, he HAS flipped his lid many a time, but that was only out of disgruntlement, NOT from having his spirit broken in the most inhumane fashion! He handled losing the studio AND the Muppet name itself MUCH better in the movie, Jim himself probably would've had Kermit swallow his pride and say "fine, we'll start all over again because we're a family, no matter what" too like he did here rather than grimmly mutter to himself "I failed everyone, it's my own damn fault..."

I'm sure the Henson Company will never make a mistake like that ever again.

Especially since as of 2004, 2 years AFTER "Very Merry Christmas", the Muppets were bought by none other than the Walt Disney Company from the Henson Company.

Yeah, I despise those Christmas specials too! *goes into rant-mode)

"It's a Very Merry Muppet Christams" was a major insult to the origin of the Muppet characters as seen in "The Muppet Movie" & "The Great Muppet Caper."

Before Kermit came into their lives:
Fozzie was working at El Sleezo Cafe & Bar as a comedian with a lousy, humorless audience (NOT a Gang-banger)

Gonzo was a plummer with Camela traveling beside him (NOT a bum)

The Electric Mayham band were originally gonna turn an abandon church into a coffee shop, where they can play anytime they want (NOT River-stomping Dacers), and with Scooter as their band-manager (NOT a gay cage-dancer)

Busen & Beaker used to work at a gift shop of a bankrupt Western valley (NOT being on steroids or impersonating Elton John)

Miss Piggy was a commercial actress who also entered in beauty padgents (NOT a crazy cat-lady who tries to be a stereotype Jamacian fortune teller)

Rizzo used work at a malt shop as a bus-boy (NOT becoming food on "Fear Factor" )
