The fact that you did this with only a .5 HB Mechanical pencil is a testament to your skill as an artist. Do you prefer to work with only one tool in the area of graphite or willing to use other grades of graphite to achieve your art?

Hi ZenKoan, thank you for noting that (about the 0.5 HB). I only used one pencil for this piece because I drew this on my carry around sketch pad and with that I carry just one pencil. But yes I do use other grades, ranging from 4H to 4B (I stopped using anything higher than 4B as it does not suit my drawing style). Thank you!

I noticed in your profile that you're a self-trained artist, and was wondering what you did (besides dedicated practice), that helped elevate your art skill? Was there any basics that you focused on and then moved onto other forms?

Technically, I trained my hand to handle the pencil the lightest way possible, like the lead is almost not touching the paper when starting with light shadows. Β That's how I'm able to work with HB only (such as this piece). Β I think the most important thing I've learned while trying out different medium and styles is increasing my patience and not rushing serious work. Sad to say, when I got into manga-style drawing, I ended up doing just sketches to pass the time as it was so easy and fun to do. Β I sort of revived my enthusiasm when I tried sci-fi design like this one. Β If you'd browse my gallery and look at my old pencil works, I had a lot of conceptuals that are very detailed. Β I wish I could do those kind of stuff again.
