Gifs are generally animated ~ hence the required "preview".
**Basically..
JPEGS = normal images.
Gifs = short-animations.
PNGs = non-animated images that use transparency (blank backgrounds behind the character).

Wow, the finished piece is a lot different from the preview icon.. I was kinda surprised, but I like this one a little better actually. Yeah I'll never figure out their kinda janky labeling system, but at least they fixed one of the categories I was most irritated with(all comic panels were relabeled as being part of the fan art category despite being started in the original-digital-art categories...although it was just an incorrect labeling because it still allowed you to make them Prints, which you can't do with actual fan-art categories). I guess it's just the problem with building on an old system since you can't really rip all the billions of previous submissions apart just to recategorize everything correctly..
