Tanis is a woman of few words, preferring to let her actions speak for themselves, and so tends to be an extremely hard person to read. Often coming off as cold or haughty, she is very reserved and doesn't trust easy. She lives a life of discipline, keeping near perfect control over herself at all times, and holds herself to a high moral standard. When stressed or threatened, however, this control slips, and she can become extremely aggressive. In these moments, she will go to a secluded, preferably high up location, and often takes refuge on roofs or in trees to calm herself. She prefers not to take sides, remaining impartial and unbiased until she has all the facts regarding the situation. She also has a bit of a rebellious streak, sometimes doing things to spite people who have gotten on her nerves.
Despite her stoic nature, Tanis cares very deeply for her loved ones, and will protect them to her last breath.

History:

Left on the doorstep of an orphanage as a baby, Tanis has always been alone. The orphanage was not a happy place for her, underfunded and overstuffed, proper food, clothing, and blankets often running in short supply, and so she learned at a very early age how to fend for herself. She would often steal clothing and food where she could, even going so far as to hunt down and cook rodents and birds if she needed to. She would often climb and crawl into small, cramped spaces to be alone, the chaos of the orphanage setting her on edge.
At the age of six, she fled from the orphanage to try and find something better, joining a passing circus as backstage help, and eventually getting into acrobatics and contortion. The circus owners, seeing her potential, encouraged and began to push her, slowly at first but becoming increasingly more intense as she got older. It was after a particularly hard practice session that she broke down, exhausted and in pain, begging for a break, that the owners finally displayed their true nature, not as the friendly, encouraging people they had been before, but as cruel, greedy business owners. From then on, they would punish slip ups with pain and abuse, and Tanis began to withdraw into herself, hiding her emotions under a neutral mask. Soon enough, she became one of the main attractions of the circus, doing aerial contortion with both hoop and silks. Despite this, she was never happy, and at the age of 23, she ran away again, securing herself a job working as entertainment in a tavern in return for room and board while she reassimilated herself into society.

For several years now, she's been making a decent living for herself as an entertainer for hire, performing pretty much wherever she can get a job, however, she feels the situation in Giat at the moment is becoming dicier by the day. She does not agree with any of the factions, and simply wishes to be able to live her life in peace.
