There has been a hum in the air for a while now.
It has always been there, as far as he remembers, though it was silent during the first few months of his stay in Griffia.
Only ever picking up before a storm, it's occasionally interrupted by soft confusion or surprised greeting before stumbling back to that monotone grief. Eventually, it would fade with the end of the storm, only the static of tiredness betraying it's presence till another comes and repeats the cycle once more.
It was aggravating, listening to it all with no one to share it with, for only he could hear those voiceless words.
But alls the same when he stands at attention, ignoring everything but the clouds as they turn grey with rain. When he hears its hum once more, he feels himself relax, the haunting memory of unmarked graves and ageless solitude easing into comfort in shared mourning.
As time passes and he finds himself wandering far from home, all he could do is whisper assurances to the storm as he pads along an unseen path, pulled along by forgotten memories of warmth and happiness.
When Autumn's touch wanes to evergreen's mist, he knows he should feel alarmed by their sudden change.
But something in it feels familiar, from the stone and dirt that gave way to wild underbrush and to the rain that pelts gently against his fur, a childhood memory resurfaces like a weight released. Dazed and mimicking old movements, he climbs over a fallen tree and pushes past the bushes to see-
